Nice Man Jack by John Miles

Album: ZaragonReleased: 1978
  • This song is based on one of the many theories about Jack the Ripper: that he was a gentleman, well liked, and the last person anyone would suspect of being a serial killer. Catherine Eddowes, the Ripper's fourth victim, was murdered in Mitre Square on the night of September 29, 1888.

Neither Kensington Gardens nor Harley Street have any real connection with Jack the Ripper, but the former was probably included to suggest a Royal connection, while it is just possible that the real Jack was a medical man who had some association with the world famous Harley Street. "Nice Man Jack" is divided into three parts: (i) Kensington Gardens; (ii) Mitre Square; (iii) Harley Street. >>
