The track features the Hip Hop and R&B producer and songwriter T-Pain, who also co-wrote and produced the track. It was Chris Brown's first collaboration with T-Pain.
In the week ending November 3, 2007 when this song zoomed from #22 to #2 in the Billboard Hot 100, and the following week when it rose to #1, T-Pain had a remarkable 7 songs in the Top 50, of which 3 were in the Top 10. The others were "Cyclone" by Baby Bash, "Good Life" by Kanye West, "Shawty" by Plies and I'm So Hood" by DJ Khaled, all featuring T-Pain plus "Bartender" by T-Pain featuring Akon and "Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')" by T-Pain featuring featuring Yung Joc. In addition T-Pain, under his given name Faheem Najm, was responsible for co-writing all of these songs plus another song in the Top 50, "Baby Don't Go," by Fabolous featuring Jermaine Dupri.
The video was recorded at Florida International University in Miami.
Brown called his second album Exclusive as he felt it was an album especially for his fans. He said, "I made this album 'exclusively' for them." The album was originally going to be titled Graduation, but was renamed due to Kanye West's album, which was released a few months earlier having the same name.
This was the eighth song in the Rock era to debut at the bottom of the chart, in this case #100, and climb all the way to the top. Other songs that have achieved the same feat include "When A Man Loves A Woman," by Percy Sledge, "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" by Vicki Lawrence and "Can't Help Falling In Love" by UB40.
