  • Brandon from Vincennes, InI can understand why this would remind someone of Perks because of the mixtapes and The Smiths, but if you have read the book, the storyline really is nothing similar to what the message of this song is.
  • Caitlyn from Royersford, PaI would say something about Hannah is, but it seems everyone else on this page has done it for me;) Brand New rules
  • Jssmchh_rawr from Fayetteville, Nchm, hanna from madision, what is WI? wissconsin? no one cares, about wissonsin, except for milwuakee, because that's the only city i know of there. anyway, brand new. is by far my favorite band. and if you think that they are NOT orignal, then a. you haven't actually listened to them, or b. you have no taste in music, or lyrics. i don't honestly know, what this song was written about. i had never heard about it being based on the perks of being a wallflower, so that shocked me, seeing as that's my favorite book. i suppose, that it could relate to the way charlie feels about mary elizabeth, but, i just don't think that's what jesse intended for it. i'm more partial to it being about the taking back sunday feud. because as someone else said, "i've got a 20 dollar bill, that no one's ever seen you without make up" is an attack on taking back sunday, just as the shirt brand new released "mic's are for singing, not swinging" was. also, "i've got a twenty dollar bill that says you're up late night, starting fist fights"-from there's no i in team, by taking back sunday. just as "so is that what you call tact, you're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back, so let's end this conversation" was used in both seventy times seven and there's no i in team.
  • Thomas Chase from Wellsville, NyI think this song is about John Nolan. "Ive got a 20 dollar bill" means 'i bet'. and "no ones ever seen you without make up" is a metaphor for the famous and show type life of bands. " I know that you're a sucker, for anything acoustic" signifies how they enjoy the same style of music. " when i say lets keep in touch, i really mean i wish that you would grow up" is talking about the hard feeling for what happened between Jesse Lacey's girlfriend and John. " Somewhat golden like that afternoons we use to spend before you go too cool" means how Jesse misses all the times of their friendship they've had over the past. and the 'too cool' part is just a reminder of how John is still in Taking Back Sunday.

    -Just my opinion : )
  • Nate from Fair Grove, MoThat's funny that you say that Hannah, because all songwriting is is references. References to your own past, or a thought or feeling. And the most notable and acclaimed songwriters have been known to makes references to books like this and many others that would be too difficult for your fifth grade reading level to comprehend. You sure backed yourself in a corner on this one.
  • Scotty from Spokane, WaWhoo Hannah. How wrong you are darlin'. They're more original than any band that you listen to, I would bet my life on it.
  • Chris from Milwuakee, WiHannah from Madison,
your right it is so lame to read books.
lets all watch 'The Flava of Love' instead
by the way Anthony Green from Circa Survive and Saosin wrote a song about the book 'House of Leeves'
and if you think Anthony Green is lame I will kick you in da nutz!
    you make Wisconsin look bad!
  • Stephanie from Moreno Valley, Cabrand new is not lame at all...jesse was aobut 18 when he wrote this song for him to wirte this song at 18 is pretty damn good. he was young and very nieve but in the end your favorite weapon is one of the best cds they have. i love the whole idea of this song. people should really listne to more than one of there songs before making any judgments.
  • Taylor from Peoria, IlDude, brand new is so not lame... You obviously havn't listened to very many of their songs to think that they're not original.
  • Hannah from Madison, WiLeave it to lame Brand New to not even have an original thought enough to write a song about.
