  • Born to push you around
    Better just stay down
    You pull away
    He hits the flesh
    You hit the ground

    Mouth so full of lies
    Tend to block your eyes
    Just keep them closed
    Keep praying
    Just keep waiting

    Waiting for the one
    The day that never comes
When you stand up and feel the warmth
But the sunshine never comes, no
    No, the sunshine never comes

    Push you cross that line
    Just stay down this time
    Hide in yourself
    Crawl in yourself
    You'll have your time

    God I'll make them pay
    Take it back one day
    I'll end this day
I'll splatter color on this gray

    Waiting for the one
    The day that never comes
When you stand up and feel the warmth
    But the sunshine never comes

Love is a four letter word
    And never spoken here
Love is a four letter word
    Here in this prison

    I suffer this no longer
I'll put an end to this
    This I swear
    This I swear
    The sun will shine
    This I swear
    This I swear
This I swear Writer/s: James Alan Hetfield, Kirk L. Hammett, Lars Ulrich, Robert Augustine Trujillo

  • Chris from PolandTo Layton from Paris, Tx: you think better what the song is about than the creators?! Lars said that the music video is NOT related to the lyrics. Jesus Christ... Some people.
  • Zander from Los AngelesAnother attempt at Fade to Black/Welcome Home(Sanitarium)/One. Not bad.
  • Zero from Nowhere, NjI once wrote a poem before this song was realesed (2004) about my chronic anxiety disorder. It started "I stand in the back, cold and concealed/I wait for the moment that never comes." Lars Ulrich suffers from bad anxiety.
  • Brett from Sutton, OnI can related to this song in a big way. I'm in a long-distance relationship with someone who was in an abusive relationship. I told her that one day we can be together. Even though I've panned it all out, it's so far away that it seems like "The Day That Never Comes"....
  • Craig from Rockhampton, AustraliaThis song deals with Hetfield's strict upbringing and how could never win the love or approval of his parents. His father was a strong enforcer of the "do as I say, not as I do" rule (a line that is used in the song "Dyer's Eve") and he is waiting for the day his parents love and respect him for who he is and not who they want him to be. Hence, "the day that never comes". "Love is a four letter word and never spoken here" means his parents never told him that they loved him, or he could never find the right way to them them that he loved them. Love was considered a "dirty word".
"The 'son' shine never comes" means that no matter how hard he tried, he was never going to be the shining ray of light he always wanted to be.

    Craig. Australia.
  • Layton from Paris, TxI dont think this is about an abusive relationship, if you watch the music video it cleary shows soldiers fighting a war. Gives it a whole different meaning...
  • Jamir from Philadelphia, Vai like the end riff where the bass and guitar play at the same time and they all take turns.IT'S AWSOME!!!!!!
  • Corey from Richmond, VaLove this song! Video is good to, love that they choose the Marines for the video.
  • Goombario from Jacksonville, FlThis song is about a soldier in Iraq who gets shot
  • Joseph from Clarmore, Oki want this song to be the first to blow my speakers out in my car. i'm working on it whereas it plays on the radio at least 30 times a day.
  • Courtney from Salt Lake City, UtI absolutely LOVE this song and I can relate to it on so many levels! I was in a verbally abusive relationship a year ago and this is truly the exact way I felt while I was with him. Way to go Metallica! You have done it yet again!
