Wasted Time by Eagles

Album: Hotel CaliforniaReleased: 1976
  • Well baby, there you stand
With your little head, down in your hand
Oh, my God, you can't believe it's happening again
Your baby's gone, and you're all alone
And it looks like the end

And you're back out on the street
    And you're tryin' to remember
How do you start it over
You don't know if you can
You don't care much for a stranger's touch
But you can't hold your man

You never thought you'd be alone
    This far down the line
And I know what's been on your mind
You're afraid it's all been wasted time

The autumn leaves have got you thinking
About the first time that you fell
You didn't love the boy too much, no, no
You just loved the boy to well, farewell

So you live day to day
And you dream about tomorrow, oh
And the hours go by like minutes
And the shadows come to stay
So you take a little something
    To make them go away
I could have done so many things, baby
If I could only stop my mind
From wonderin' what I left behind
And from worrying 'bout this wasted time

Ooh, another love has come and gone
Ooh, and the years keep rushing on
I remember what you told me before you went out on your own
Sometimes to keep it together, we got to leave it alone

So you can get on with your search, baby
And I can get on with mine
And maybe someday we will find
That it wasn't really wasted time
    Mmm, hmm mm
    Oh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, mmm mmmWriter/s: GLENN FREY, DON HENLEY, JIM NORMAN

One of my many Favorite Eagles songs.Jeannie - Ky
I've listened to this song about 10 times today and it has to be about one their romances gone bad. On Wikipedia, it says the song was inspired by Don Henley's breakup with Loree Rodkin, so you there have it.Dude - Florida
Jul 2014,

1. I Love this song.
2. And though they may have been aiming for the "Blue Eye'd" Soul Philly sound and Henly has the chops for it,..this has more a Kenny Rogers (type) Country Pop (or Pop Country) Vibe.
3. Again, a great song.
Markantney - Biloxi, Ms
The song is Henley's message that while it is hard not to be despondent and bitter about the end of a romance, it is important to not to let that overwhelm you. Don would revive that theme with his 1989 solo hit "Heart Of The Matter".Ken - Louisville, Ky
Although the song is about the end of a romantic relationship, it was chosen to end Part One of the History Of The Eagles doc. It covered the 1980 break up of the group with the closing line of the song "So you can get on with your search, baby/And I can get on with mine/And maybe one day we will find/That it wasn't really wasted time".Ken - Louisville, Ky
