  • What do I gotta do to make you love me?
What do I gotta do to make you care?
What do I do when lightning strikes me?
And awake to find that you're not there?

What do I do to make you want me?
What have I gotta do to be heard?
What do I say when it's all over?
And sorry seems to be the hardest word

It's sad (so sad), so sad
    It's a sad, sad situation
And it's getting more and more absurd
It's sad (so sad), so sad
Why can't we talk it over?
    Oh, it seems to me
That sorry seems to be the hardest word

It's sad (so sad), so sad
    It's a sad, sad situation
And it's getting more and more absurd
It's sad (so sad), so sad
Why can't we talk it over?
    Oh, it seems to me
That sorry seems to be the hardest word

What do I do to make you love me? Oh
What have I gotta do to be heard?
What do I do when lightning strikes me?
    What've I gotta do?
    What've I gotta do?
Ooh, when sorry seems to be the hardest word Writer/s: Bernard J.P. Taupin, Elton John

  • Tony from San DiegoHey Gautum, I'm hitting it too dude!
  • Chad from Capac/emmett, MiI also didn't know that Joe Cocker did this song. He was an amazing singer/writer.
  • Chad from Capac/emmett, MiWhat I've noticed about Elton John/The Beatles music is that they are very deep. Does any one know of any connections from this song to any thing/one?
  • Dan from Kingston, OnI saw Elton Johnn in concert Friday night (July 9/10) - he said he wrote this song in Toronto in 1976
  • Brad from Long Island, NyA great cult film, slap shot with the great Paul Newman. Michael Ontkean is blowing off his wife, getting off the bus prematurely. so he doenst have to see his alcholic wife while "sorry" plays. One of the few touching scenes in that movie.
  • Paul from Levy, ArSuch a somber, touching song. I've heard a few good covers, but nothing to compare with the original. (And no, Gautam, this is not called "Better When You're Not There" as Renee pointed out. Put down the joint and step away from the keyboard...hehe)
  • Renee from Bloomington, MnNot sure which song you're thinking of but I have never heard this referred to as anything other than "Sorry Seems To Be the Hardest Word."
  • Gautam from Rockville, MdThe song is called "Better When You're Not There" not sure why Songfacts has it wrong.
