  • Somewhere there's speaking
    It's already coming in
Oh and it's rising at the back of your mind
    You never could get it
    Unless you were fed it
Now you're here and you don't know why

But under skinned knees and the skid marks
Past the places where you used to learn
    You howl and listen
    Listen and wait for the
Echoes of angels who won't return

    He's everything you want
    He's everything you need
    He's everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
He says all the right things
    At exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you
    And you don't know why

    You're waiting for someone
    To put you together
You're waiting for someone to push you away
There's always another wound to discover
There's always something more you wish he'd say

    He's everything you want
    He's everything you need
    He's everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
He says all the right things
    At exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you
    And you don't know why

    But you'll just sit tight
    And watch it unwind
It's only what you're asking for
    And you'll be just fine
    With all of your time
It's only what you're waiting for

    Out of the island
    Into the highway
Past the places where you might have turned
    You never did notice
    But you still hide away
The anger of angels who won't return

    He's everything you want
    He's everything you need
    He's everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
He says all the right things
    At exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you
    And you don't know why

    I am everything you want
    I am everything you need
I am everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
I say all the right things
    At exactly the right time
But I mean nothing to you and I don't know why
    And I don't know why
    Why
    I don't know Writer/s: Matt Scannell, Matthew B. Scannell

  • Gerjon from Li NyI married my best friend, we were perfect together, other woman said I was bullet proof.....then all of a sudden things between us started not being in sync, it all fell apart no matter how hard I tried to keep it together....I started developing a theory that I gave the marriage counselor during our separation.....[1978] turns out she had been raped by her boss at work and never said anything......it was never ever the same after and the full story was never heard....she never came back from the other side of that wall and I will never know why....(you can't reach them because they built a wall to hide behind and after trying you need to just walk away because it's not your problem....or reality to dwell in, just theirs).....[2006] without saying a word I played the song for her and she cried - the song said it all!
  • Roland from ArkansasI always had the feeling the woman in this song was a Lesbian, but either she hadn’t came out yet, or didn’t realize it about herself. Every boyfriend she had made her feel empty, even if they were “perfect” for her.
  • Deborah from Michigan I’m the girl in the song. I figured out years ago I’m screwed up but can’t make the leap into the healthy relationship. I’ve always been lonely whether in a relationship or alone. Even relationships that started out looking normal get twisted. High school friends would tell me the bad boys were all wrong for me. There was a boy that followed me with his eyes for three years; he was a friend and I didn’t want to wreck that, plus I felt too messy to inflict on him.
  • Louis L from Roseland NjThis is my breakup song to my ex of 3 years, Stephanie. The author's meaning of the song is exactly what happened in our relationship. But to take it a step farther, she also cheated on me to boot! That was 15 years ago. I still cry today, every time I hear this song.
  • Nosla from SssMost likely this song is about God or either your inner voices (idk why I feel it's like that) although god makes more sense.... your inner voice does say things at the right time plus it does encourage you or say something you want or even talk like how you want to express in real life. Inner voice also comes and goes...
  • Miles from Vancouver, CanadaVery catchy, very memorable, very upbeat, very uplifting... that's all I'm gonna say. (Though I will mention that when visiting my nearby grocery store last night, the song came on the loudspeakers and I was in a happy mood then. Same thing happened the night before, only they played another great 90's alternative rock song, "Fire Escape" by Fastball.)
  • Staley from Dallas, TxI'm not someone who pays much attention to the lyrics (there are songs I can sing the whole way through, but don't recognize the lyrics when I see them out of context), but this one is a very catchy melody. It wasn't from their first album, though--the band had several albums before the one this song was on.
  • Tyler from Murphy, NcThis song is about being in love with your best friend, and your best friend being in love with another guy. That other does everything that makes her fall for him, you do the same thing, but she never gets it, she just keeps looking past you. You just want to yell at her, I'm the one for you. Its a love story for the ages, the love story of the afraid, the respectful and the prideful.
  • Nindia from Lima, PeruIs aout jesus , everything we need is his love but we don't understand in the last part is like God talk us and He said: I'm like Jesus i'm the light the true and tha live. do U believe in Jesus?? He can saves U don't forget that
  • Jackie from Elyria, Ohi think this song is great, for me it is the oppisite of what is happening, i loved this guy but he broke up with me and i don't know why but i stil love him and i am upset more than ever
  • Benny J from Sydney, United StatesI am not necessarily religous, however, I believe that this song is either consciously or sub-consciously about Jesus.
  • N.i. from Baltimore, MdIt's left ambiguous whether the girl really doesn't know why she doesn't want him. You could easily interpret the song as taking place entirely in the guy's head, and only he doesn't understand, and he's projecting his frustration onto her--she might have her reasons for not wanting him, they're just unknown to him.
  • Jamie from Alameda, CaThis song is always so bittersweet, especially at the end. I used to not get it when I was younger--I'd go, "I like that song but I don't get the last verse," and now I understand it perfectly, and it's incredibly sad.

It also sounds like real life as opposed to our fantasies--you find your dream guy and he absolutely loves you, but somehow you can't love him back because there's something missing.
  • Michael from Vancouver, United Statesthe thing i love about this song is how the point of view changes, from him talking about how a girl feels about another guy ad in the end revealing how he is actualy talking about himself.
  • Londn from Dallas, TxThis Song i think is about he likes his best friend but cant find a way for her to like himmore than that
