  • most folks only know the refrain, but the original 1908 song had 2 verses also:

Katie Casey was base ball mad.
    Had the fever and had it bad;
Just to root for the home town crew,
    Ev'ry sou Katie blew.
On a Saturday, he young beau
Called to see if she'd like to go,
To see a show but Miss Kate said,
"No, I'll tell you what you can do."

"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
    If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
    At the old ball game."

Katie Casey saw all the games,
    Knew the players by their first names;
Told the umpire he was wrong,
    All along good and strong.
When the score was just two to two,
Katie Casey knew what to do,
Just to cheer up the boys she knew,
She made the gang sing this song:

"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
    If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, your out,
    At the old ball game."

  • Peyton Gregory from Houston, TexasThe peeople know the refrain of take me out to the ball game and therre us 2 verses they can't sing. If they sing the verses adding the refrain they might be telling a story of katie casey Wanting to go to the baseball game
  • Susan from Atlanta, GeorgiaOne of two songs that will be played at my funeral (the other being the Beatles' "Let It Be").
FYI, the time span between Oct 10th, 1957 World Series and Oct 9th, 1958 World Series (or any other activities on those dates) is not six months; it is one day shy of a year. (I must admit to being pleased to know that the Braves won the World Series in '57, even if it was the Milwaukee ones.)
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn April 13th 1958, Whitey Ford, Yogi Berra*, Mickey Mantle & Bill Skowron*, of the New York Yankees, join songwriter Jack Norworth to sing Norworth's "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" on the CBS-TV variety program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'...
Jack Norworth, who composed the song with Albert Von Tilzer, was 79 years old at the time, and passed away a year later on September 1st, 1959...
Six months before this Sullivan appearance on October 10th, 1957 the Yanks lost the seven game 1957 World Series to the Milwaukee Braves; but six months later on October 9th, 1958 the Yanks won the 1958 World Series, once again it was a seven game series against the Braves...
    * Bill Skowron hit a three run homer in the eighth inning of game seven of the 1958 series...
  • Dave from Liverpool, United KingdomEvery time I hear this song, it takes me back to a Monday evening in early May a few years ago where I sat in the stands at Yankee Stadium singing this out like a good 'un. Large coke in one hand, foot long in the other, and my vintage Liverpool FC soccer shirt on.

Incidentally, they lost to the Minnesota Twins..... Typical!
  • Rick from Tuscola, United Statesbaseball has the only song that is played at every ballpark.
