  • Krauss is accomplished on the fiddle. Her career started when she won various fiddling championships as a teenager, including the Illinois State Fiddling Championship. Born in Decatur, Illinois, she grew up in Champagne, where she started playing violin when she was 5. She released her first album when she was just 16.
  • She has influenced a number of younger bluegrass groups, notably Nickel Creek - she produced their first two albums. who she worked with as a producer. She also worked on the soundtrack for the movie O Brother Where Art Thou?.
  • Her band is Union Station. Their guitarist and vocalist Dan Tyminski was the singing voice of George Clooney in O Brother, Where Art Thou?.
  • Krauss has contributed to the soundtracks of several movies, inlcuding Twister, The Prince of Egypt, Mona Lisa Smile and Cold Mountain.
  • Grammy voters sure love Krauss. She won 17 awards by the time she was 40, and for a while, held the record for most wins by a female with 27. Beyoncé surpassed her in 2021 when she took four awards to bump her total to 28.
