  • September 4, 1981
  • Beyoncé rose to fame as the lead singer of Destiny's Child. She released her first solo album a year before the group disbanded. In addition to her music career, she has appeared in several movies, including Austin Powers in Goldmember, The Pink Panther and Dreamgirls.
  • She set a record at the 2010 Grammy Awards for most Grammys won by a female artist in one night, winning six of the ten awards she was nominated for. The only other artist to have ten nominations is Lauryn Hill, who set the mark in 1999 with her album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Beyoncé is also the first female artist ever to win the International Artist Award at the 2007 American Music Awards. This unique honor has been given only to a few artists, including Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Rod Smith, and Rod Stewart.
  • Beyoncé says the person who had given her the best advice is Oprah Winfrey, which she got from watching her show. Beyoncé told iVillage: "I just will never forget her talking about the power of 'No.' That helped me so much, especially when trying to balance everything and so I have to learn how to say no when I don't like something. That's a very hard thing to do because I don't like to disappoint people and I work hard, but that has also been very helpful to me when I don't feel passionate about something - saying no and meaning it."
  • She is well-known for her close family ties – her father was her longtime manager, and her mother, with whom she launched a clothing line, designs her stage costumes. Her cousin Angie is her personal assistant, and cousin Marlon is her road manager. Her sister Solange, who is also a singer, sometimes lends a helping hand in songwriting. Beyoncé commented: "There's always one or two family members with me at all times. I don't go anywhere without someone that loves me and that can tell me the truth. Family is so important to me."
  • With the release of her third album she introduced her alter ego Sasha Fierce, who is "too aggressive, too strong, too sassy, too sexy." She told CBS News: "I'm not like her in real life at all. I'm not flirtatious and super-confident and fearless like her. What I feel onstage I don't feel anywhere else. It's an out-of-body experience. I created my stage persona to protect myself so that when I go home I don't have to think about what it is I do. Sasha isn't me. The people around me know who I really am." Two years later, Beyonce told MTV she got rid of Sasha Fierce because she's grown enough to be able to merge the two.
  • Though Beyoncé is known for releasing empowering songs throughout her career, she is sometimes reluctant to be labeled a feminist. "That word can be very extreme," she told the UK edition of Vogue magazine when asked if she considers herself a feminist. "But I guess I am a modern-day feminist. I do believe in equality. Why do you have to choose what type of woman you are? Why do you have to label yourself anything? I'm just a woman and I love being a woman. If you're attractive then you can't be sexy, and you can't be intelligent? What is all of that?"
  • Traveling around the world playing gigs gives Beyoncé the time to relax. She loves having all day off when she's on tour, and admits to sleeping in at times until three o'clock. On more ambitious days, she'll take in local culture like museums and parks. Once it gets near showtime, however, she's all business.
  • Beyoncé addressed her reasons for firing her father from his longtime role as her manager in 2011, during an interview with Oprah Winfrey. "It took a while for me and my dad to have an understanding. When I turned 18 and started handling my business more, he went into shock. And we had our issues. I'd say 'no' to something, and he'd book it anyway. Then I'd have to do it because I'd look bad [if I didn't]," she explained. "We would fight sometimes, and it took about two years, to when I was 20, for him to realize, 'Oh, she is an adult now, and if she doesn't wanna do something, I can't make her do it.'"
  • Beyoncé developed a 3-hour routine of preparing before each concert. "I say a prayer and do a stretch with all of my band mates," she told UK Screen in 2013. "I actually just got a chair that gives a really great massage for one hour while they do my hair and make-up. And I have a playlist that I listen to every day."
  • The Brazilian band CSS named themselves after a Beyoncé quote. The Texan superstar once said she was "tired of being sexy," which in the band's native Portuguese translates as "Cansei de Ser Sexy."
  • Beyoncé may have one of the best figures in the business, but she says she has to work hard for it. "I was at my ideal weight while working on my 'Crazy In Love' video," she said. "I was 20 years old. Whenever I want to get into amazing shape, that's the body size I aim for. But believe me, I'm not a naturally thin person. I have to work for it."
  • She is, we believe, the only singer to have a horsefly named after her. The fly, which is known as Scaptia (Plinthina) Beyonceae, was first collected in 1981, by researchers in Northern Australia. As it's discovery coincided with the former Destiny's Child singer's birth. As the fly also features a golden patch on its abdomen, the scientists opted to name it after Beyoncé.
  • Beyoncé is believed to have first started dating Jay-Z after working together on "'03 Bonnie And Clyde." They married secretly in New York City on April 4, 2008. "I would not be the woman I am if I did not go home to that man," Beyoncé told Oprah of her husband. "It just gives me such a foundation. We were friends first ... Before we went on any dates, we were on the phone for a year and a half. That foundation is so important in a relationship. Just to have someone that you just like is so important - and someone that is honest!"
  • Beyoncé is Austrian composer Gustav Mahler's eighth cousin, four times removed.
  • Beyoncé made her national television debut as a pre-teen on the original reality competition show, Star Search as a member of Girls Tyme. The Houston girl band lost to a group named "Skeleton Groove."
  • Beyoncé took Dolly Parton's title as the most-nominated woman in Grammy history in December 2014 when she took her total nominations total to 52.

At the 2023 Grammy Awards, Beyoncé took home four Grammys, bringing her total wins to 32. She broke the previous record for the most Grammy Awards won by an individual, held by Georg Solti. The Hungarian-British conductor Solti won 31 Grammys between 1963 and 1998.
  • When Beyoncé was young she used to charge her parents' houseguests $5 each to watch her perform.
  • Beyoncé launched a vegan home delivery service called 22 Days Nutrition in February 2015 with her personal trainer Marco Borges. The idea behind the plan is that it takes 21 days to break your unhealthy eating habits.
  • Beyoncé's favorite number is four:

It is the date of her birthday (September 4th), her mother's birthday (January 4th), and her husband Jay-Z's birthday (December 4th).

There were four original Destiny's Child members.

There are four letters in her daughter's first name (Blue) and the roman numeral for the number 4 is in her second name (Ivy).

Beyoncé chose April 4, 2008 — the fourth day of the fourth month – as her wedding day.
  • Asked about her favorite pastimes during a 2016 interview with Garage magazine, Beyoncé replied: "I find myself most drawn to painting and photography. There's a release and an immediacy there that helps me escape from my other projects."
  • All 12 of the tracks from Beyoncé's 2016 Lemonade album debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 in the week following its release. This was the first ever time that a female act had charted a dozen or more songs on the chart at the same time, surpassing Taylor Swift's previous record of 11, set on November 13, 2010.
  • Beyoncé has been able to run and sing ever since she was young. Speaking with The Times of India, she recalled, "My father, who was also my manager, made me run a mile while singing so I would be able to perform on stage without becoming exhausted."
  • Beyoncé's mother Tina was born with a Creole surname, Beyincé, which has its roots in Louisiana. The star's first name is a tribute to her mom's side of the family.
  • Her biggest fear: cockroaches. They have big ones in Texas.
  • Beyonce's February 1, 2017 photo revealing that she is pregnant with twins broke Instagram records to become the most-liked post of all time. The artistic image of the pregnant singer covered with a long green veil holding her stomach, had the caption: "We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. "We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes. – The Carters."

The post quickly surpassed the Instagram record previously held by Selena Gomez of a 2016 photo taken from a Coca-Cola ad, Queen Bey's post racked up a record-breaking 6,335,571 likes in just eight hours.

Beyoncé's milestone was surpassed a year later when Kylie Jenner's first photo of her daughter quickly clocked up 12.7 million likes on Instagram.
  • When "Texas Hold 'Em" debuted atop the Country chart dated February 24, 2024, Beyoncé became the first female artist to achieve #1 songs on seven of Billboard songs charts: the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, Hot Gospel Songs, Hot Latin Songs, Hot R&B Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Only Justin Bieber has led more song charts – eight.
