On March 24, 2026, Miley Cyrus returned as Hannah Montana. The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special began streaming on Disney+ with special interviews with Miley Cyrus. Additionally, the documentary included a recreation of the old TV set. She reflected on how her music career began on the Disney Channel when she was 15 years old. Also within the special, aside from performing her Hannah Montana classics, Cyrus performed a new song.
Miley Cyrus’ newest song, “Younger You”, is an introspective ballad written as a letter from her younger self. It’s something most people can relate to, a theme of what your younger self would say to the modern version of yourself.
Within the lyrics, a young Miley calls upon herself in the present day in the opening lines, “Hey, you, it’s younger you / I’m just checking in to see if you still remember me? / Hey, you, it’s younger you / Do you still pray before bed, or are you worrying instead?” It’s an honest reflection moment for any listener, as if you can see your own younger self penning the questions to you as well.
The lyrics then detail feelings of losing touch as you grow older. The chorus details these feelings with the lyrics “Somewhere along the way, we lost touch / We used to be so happy just because / I know you had to go eventually / But don’t forget about me, don’t forget about me.”
Miley Cyrus Reconnects To Her Time As Hannah Montana and Gives Herself Advice Going Forward
This is the most reflective we’ve seen Cyrus since her time as Hannah Montana. She sings about family in the second verse, with important reminders such as “But don’t forget to call your mom / And dad too, he misses you.”
Finally, Cyrus closes the track with existential questions for herself, along with a reminder going forward. “Hey, you, it’s younger you / I know your story isn’t done / But do you love who you’ve become? / “Hey, you, it’s younger you / When you’re standing on the stars / Just don’t forget who you are.”
The final line about standing on stars refers to Miley Cyrus’ star unveiling on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 22, 2026. “Younger You” was released as a single on March 27, 2026, two months before her star unveiling. It peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart and No. 22 on the Adult Pop Airplay.
