How a Gardening Accident Forced Phoebe Bridgers To Experiment With Her Guitar Technique

Phoebe Bridgers has announced her first solo tour in three years. Bridgers wrapped up her Reunion Tour in April of 2023 and has been on hiatus since. Though in the fall of 2023, she toured with her indie supergroup, Boy Genius, along with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus. Boy Genius has released two albums, a self-titled debut and The Record in 2023. The Record marks Phoebe Bridgers’ most recent release ultimately. Her most recent solo release was her second album, Punisher, in 2020. Given this, Bridgers’ third album has been highly anticipated and is expected to follow a new tour announcement.

In a 2020 interview with Guitar World, Bridgers spoke about what changed in her songwriting. It’s something to look forward to in an anticipated upcoming release. Bridgers stated, “I f*cked up [my] finger like a year and a half ago. I was cutting stems on flowers, and the knife flipped and just hacked right on my knuckle. Since then, it’s been really stiff and hurts like sh*t. I hope that one day it heals, but that’s been making me more experimental with chords and tunings.”

Specifically, Bridgers stated that it was now more difficult to form E or F chords. As a result, Bridgers has innovated her playing style, and it’s changed her approach to songwriting. She has since been using more open chord tunings. In the interview, she also stated, “I try to trick myself into writing a song in an open tuning and not even worry about what the chords look like and focus on the melody instead. I’ve learned so much about my favorite gear that way, as well as my favorite chords and tones.

Phoebe Bridgers Return and Tour Announcement

Dubbed The Lost Tour, Bridgers returns to touring for the first time in three years. A full band, arena tour has been announced with support from Alex G in North America. For the UK and European leg of the tour, Isaac Wood joins Bridgers.

Though yet to be announced, a third Phoebe Bridgers album is highly anticipated. Following her finger injury, fans are invested in what could come from Bridgers on a new release. There hasn’t been a proper update on her finger injury since 2020.
