The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group ZZ Top<\/a> is currently on tour with Dwight Yoakam. The Dos Amigos Tour was announced last fall and is currently touring throughout the US. The tour with Dwight Yoakam runs through May, with stops in places such as Fort Wayne, IN, Peoria, IL, and Des Moines, IA. Additionally, ZZ Top has extended their tour beyond the booked shows. In August, ZZ Top will continue the tour with support from Cheap Trick<\/a> on most of the shows that month. Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band and Dwight Yoakam are also tagging along on a few more dates. In September, George Thorogood & The Destroyers will join the tour to replace Cheap Trick and Dwight Yoakam for a string of shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a press release from Ultimate Classic Rock<\/em><\/a>, guitarist Billy F. Gibbons spoke on the additional dates. \u201cIt’s true that we’ve been spending a lot of time on the road, and the more we’re out there, the better it feels.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gibbons went on to say, \u201cIt’s a good time for us and for the generations of fans who appreciate what we do. We’ve been at it for quite a while \u2013 something like five decades \u2013 and it seems we’re getting good at it, so there’s no reason to slow things down. Let’s rock!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ZZ Top Continues Despite the Passing of Longtime Bassist Dusty Hill in 2021<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In 2021, ZZ Top not only lost their longtime bass player, Dusty Hill, but they also lost a large part of their image and sound. Hill’s long beard, paired with Billy F. Gibbons’ beard, has long been the image of the classic rock group. When Hill passed away, many wondered if there was a future for ZZ Top. In a surprise twist, Gibbons called upon longtime guitar technician Elwood Francis to step into the role. Francis, who had already grown out his beard during the pandemic, fit the part perfectly. He had the look and sound that has allowed the band to carry on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Francis was a guitar technician for the band for over two decades, having established a relationship with the group long ago. Since joining, Francis has gone viral for his 17-string bass, further adding to ZZ Top’s cool and bizarre image that they’re known for. In 2025, Francis also added a 2-string bass to the rotation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
