The National Recording Registry was established in 2000. It seeks to preserve 25 diverse audio recordings each year, to ensure long-term survival. The list is curated by the Library of Congress and includes recordings deemed “culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant,” reflecting American life and culture. The acting Librarian of Congress, Robert R. Newlen, named 25 recordings as audio treasures to be inducted into the National Recording Registry in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 2026 selections include various genres, including country, folk, funk, pop, jazz, sports, R&B, rock, and Latin. Robert R. Newlen included a statement<\/a>, “Music and recorded sound are essential, wonderful parts of our daily lives and our national heritage.
