It doesn\u2019t take much detective work, for example, to spot the many Beatles references hiding in plain sight in Oasis hits like \u201cSupersonic\u201d, \u201cDon\u2019t Look Back In Anger\u201d, \u201cMorning Glory\u201d, and many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet he became one of his generation\u2019s leading songwriters as he shifted pop culture toward working-class Manchester and 60s British guitar bands. But it wasn\u2019t only The Beatles informing Gallagher\u2019s music. He wrote one of Britpop\u2019s last great anthems as the 90s wound down, and for inspiration, he looked to David Bowie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Oasis - Stand By Me (Official Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/maTP315XZCQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Food Poisoning<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>But before we get to Bowie, the opening verse requires an explanation, and here Gallagher recalls a 48-hour bout with food poisoning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I first moved to London, my mam kept on ringing up and asking was I eating properly,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicfanclubs.org\/oasis\/beherenow.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> <em>Q<\/em>. \u201cSo I tried to cook a Sunday roast and puked up for two days with food poisoning. It was back to Pot Noodles after that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Made a meal and threw it up on Sunday,<br>I\u2019ve got a lot of things to learn.<br>Said I would and I\u2019ll be leaving one day,<br>Before my heart starts to burn<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cAll The Young Dudes\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the same interview, he said that in writing \u201cStand By Me\u201d, he borrowed from himself as well as Bowie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a bit like \u2018Live Forever\u2019, I suppose, with a touch of \u2018All The Young Dudes\u2019 in the background\u2014though I made sure I changed the chords.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mott The Hoople first recorded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/facts\/mott-the-hoople\/all-the-young-dudes\">\u201cAll The Young Dudes\u201d<\/a>, which was produced by Bowie and appears on the band\u2019s 1972 album of the same name, after they had rejected a chance to record \u201cSuffragette City\u201d. Both Bowie-penned tunes remain glam rock touchstones. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Oasis, <em>Be Here Now<\/em> arrived in 1997 as both the band and Britpop had reached commercial peaks. Soon, Oasis would change its lineup and sound.
