Originally called \u201cFormula\u201d, he sings about obsession, want, and a couple becoming so intertwined that one loses themselves in the other as they fall into childlike innocence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>One baby to another says, \u201cI\u2019m lucky to have met you.\u201d<br>I don\u2019t care what you think unless it is about me.<br>It is now my duty to completely drain you.<br>I travel through a tube and end up in your infection<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Far from being a sugary love song, here the couple share chewed meat, fluids, and kiss with sloppy lips. But to whom is he singing? If you\u2019re interested, there are many Reddit threads speculating that Cobain\u2019s ex, Tobi Vail from riot grrrl pioneers Bikini Kill, inspired \u201cDrain You\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Chew your meat for you, pass it back and forth,<br>In a passionate kiss, from my mouth to yours,<br>I like you<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>More Production and Teen Spirit<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When Nirvana followed up <em>Nevermind<\/em> with <em>In Utero<\/em>, the band worked with Steve Albini to capture their songs as raw as possible. It was a reaction not only to the band\u2019s success but also to Butch Vig\u2019s glossy production on the previous album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KRK6c7uXvJE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According to Vig<\/a>, \u201cDrain You\u201d features the most overdubs on <em>Nevermind<\/em>, with layers of guitars peaking during the track\u2019s noisy middle section. Still, it became one of Cobain\u2019s favorite tunes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In conversation with David Fricke from <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> about the success of \u201cSmells Like Teen Spirit\u201d, Cobain <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20101031083301\/http:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/news\/51942\/228308\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>, \u201cThere are so many other songs that I\u2019ve written that are as good, if not better, like \u2018Drain You\u2019. That\u2019s as good as \u2018Teen Spirit\u2019. I love the lyrics, and I never get tired of playing it.
