Without access to the now-defunct original website, many are left with listening to the bands of the era for nostalgia. A main feature of MySpace was your profile song, and it would play as soon as anyone visited your page. Your songs on your profile were arguably the most important part of your page, and it was important to impress your friends.

In the early 2000s, genres began blending and venturing into new styles and sounds more than ever before. With this, hardcore punk merged with metal, thus creating metalcore, which stylistically had emo elements sprinkled in as well. Often labeled as screamo, the bands featured raw screaming vocals, dropped and low-tuned guitars perfect for chugging riffs, and the tightest jeans imaginable. There was also the closely acquainted post-hardcore genre, and these blended into each other often. Metalcore and post-hardcore bands are still around to this day, but their heyday was certainly the mid-to-late 2000s. Here are 4 metalcore and post-hardcore bands of the 2000s that will make you wish you could log in to your old MySpace page.

Attack! Attack!

This band became a dominant metalcore force with their 2008 album Someday Came Suddenly. Their vocalist, Austin Carlile, had a mid-to-high range screaming vocal approach that was addictive for metalcore fans. Someday Came Suddenly grew in popularity due to songs such as “Stick Stickly,” “What Happens If I Can’t Check My Myspace When We Get There,” and “The People’s Elbow.” They became known for their on-stage synchronized moves called crabcore. The album hit No. 9 on the US Heatseekers chart in 2008. Shortly after its release, Austin Carlile left the group and eventually formed a new metalcore band, Of Mice And Men. With Caleb Shomo on vocals, Attack! Attack! released a self-titled second album in 2010, and This Means War in 2012. They made a comeback album in 2025 called Attack! Attack! II, with the only original member included being drummer Andrew Wetzel.

Chiodos

<iframe loading="lazy" title="Chiodos - Lexington. Jason Hale’s virtuous guitar work paired brilliantly with Owens voice. Along with Bradley Bell’s elegant piano/keyboard contributions, Chiodos was a band loaded with talent, coming from Flint, Michigan, in the mid 2000s. Chiodos was named after the Chiodo Brothers, who were special effects artists for horror films and filmmakers themselves. The name fit the band well as many of their lyrics explored horror themes, and dark settings.

Their 2005 debut album, All’s Well That Ends Well, was a bold debut release from a post-hardcore band. It hit No. 5 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart, No. 11 on the Independent Albums chart, and peaked at No. 164 on the Billboard 200. Songs such as “There’s No Penguins In Alaska” and “No Hardcore Dancing In The Living Room” were staples of the MySpace era.

Their second album, Bone Palace Ballet, was a massive success in 2007. It reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and hit No. 1 on the Independent Albums chart. Additionally, it hit No. 1 on the US Top Rock Albums chart.

The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada was a metalcore band formed in Dayton, Ohio in 2005. The name was taken from the book series and film of the same title. Their debut album, Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord, was released on August 22, 2006. It included re-recorded tracks that were previously released on EPs. Songs such as “Texas Is South” and “Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over” caught metalcore fans’ attention. Their second album, Plagues, garnered praise and mostly positive reviews. It peaked at No. 57 on the Billboard 200 in 2007.

Their third studio album, With Roots Above And Branches Below, was released on May 5, 2009. It was a massive success, peaking at No. 11 on the Billboard 200. The album was a major release for the metalcore genre. In 2021, Revolver stated that “at the time, nothing else sounded quite like it, and then everything did.

Scary Kids Scaring Kids

Scary Kids Scaring Kids is a post-hardcore band formed in Gilbert, Arizona, in 2002. They first released an EP titled After Dark in 2003. Their debut studio album, The City Sleeps In Flames, was released on June 28, 2005. Along with the debut release, the band posted three music videos to YouTube and their MySpace page that helped generate a following. Songs such as “My Darkest Hour” and “The Only Medicine” became staple songs for the group. The debut peaked at No. 50 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart.

Their second album was a self-titled release in 2007. It entered the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 80. Additionally, three singles were released that became fan favorites: “Faces,” “The Deep End,” and “Snake Devil.” Tragically, this was the band’s last album with lead singer Tyson Stevens, who passed away in 2014. From 2010 through 2019, the band went on hiatus. They returned with a new album in 2022, titled Out Of Light.

For many millennials, the formative years of social media included countless hours on MySpace.
