And in her new track, \u201cDanceteria\u201d, she revisits the place where it all began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Madonna - Danceteria (Official Audio)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Abty86vTsV0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>No Entiendes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Madonna\u2019s song gets its name from the New York club where she was discovered by a DJ named Mark Kamins, who introduced her to Sire Records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The opening verse glimpses a night out in the city. This is Madonna, young and broke, yet full of swagger and conviction. She name-checks friends and collaborators and cuts to the front of the line, en route to the cabaret, No Entiendes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>I get off the train, four, five, six,<br>Walk to the club, don&#8217;t wait for sh*t.<br>Meet this boy named Martin Burgoyne,<br>He&#8217;s my best friend, he&#8217;s my boytoy.<br>We see the line; it&#8217;s way too long,<br>Cut to the front, there&#8217;s Haoui Montaug.<br>Waves us in, No Entiendes,<br>I&#8217;m not sure you understand this<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now she\u2019s on the dance floor and, in passing, calls out her 1985 hit, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/facts\/madonna\/into-the-groove\">\u201cInto The Groove\u201d<\/a>. (The song was featured in the film <em>Desperately Seeking Susan,<\/em> which includes scenes filmed at Danceteria.)<br><br><em>It&#8217;s not what I say, it&#8217;s not what I do,<br>It&#8217;s how my body language talks to you.<br>I just want to lose myself in the groove,<br>Get over here<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cYou Look Lost\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Madonna <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interviewmagazine.com\/music\/madonna-confessions-on-a-dancefloor-nadia-lee-cohen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> <em>Interview<\/em> about an early encounter at the club: \u201cI probably looked completely tragic waiting in line at Danceteria. That\u2019s when Martin [Burgoyne] came up to me.\u201d He said, \u201cYou look lost.\u201d Then he walked Madonna into the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe brought me in and my whole life changed. And obviously I went there a lot because I was figuring out a way to butter up Mark Kamins,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later in the song, Madonna mentions a who\u2019s who of the glitzy scene: Fab Five Freddy, Basquiat, Nile Rodgers, David Byrne, and The B-52s, to name quite a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is how we start the party,\u201d she sings. And in less than four minutes, \u201cDanceteria\u201d takes one on a journey through Madonna\u2019s early chapter in New York City.
