Cage\u2019s character transforms into a human so he can be with her. But now, he feels human experiences like pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>And I\u2019d give up forever to touch you,<br>\u2019Cause I know that you feel me somehow.<br>You\u2019re the closest to heaven that I\u2019ll ever be,<br>And I don\u2019t want to go home right now<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Rzeznik thought of Cage\u2019s character and how much the angel sacrifices to be and feel human, giving up immortality. \u201cWhat an amazing thing it must be like to love someone so much that you give up everything to be with them,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/facts\/the-goo-goo-dolls\/iris\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>And I don\u2019t want the world to see me,<br>\u2019Cause I don\u2019t think that they\u2019d understand.<br>When everything\u2019s made to be broken,<br>I just want you to know who I am<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>From Punk to Pop<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I toured with the Goo Goo Dolls while \u201cIris\u201d was still one of the biggest songs on the planet. It was always interesting to watch the audience as the band played their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qWsj5qPBZ_w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">early punk songs<\/a>. Most fans likely bought tickets because of \u201cIris\u201d, \u201cBlack Balloon\u201d, and \u201cName\u201d. But the Goo Goo Dolls started as a punk trio and had more in common with The Replacements than Matchbox Twenty or Tonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>And you can\u2019t fight the tears that ain\u2019t coming,<br>Or the moment of truth in your lies.<br>When everything feels like the movies,<br>Yeah, you bleed just to know you\u2019re alive<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there\u2019s something about a punk singing a ballad. Rzeznik delivers his earnest song in a broken voice.
