While many wish The Strokes would reconnect with producer Gordon Raphael and just come out with something like the first two records, the band, clearly, has moved on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLonely In The Future\u201d explains why there\u2019s no need to repeat themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Not Like Us<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Lonely in the Future\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/d5NnDC716wg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The new track is a fuzzy, angular banger that finds singer Julian Casablancas lashing out at critics, clones, and the like. With his voice constricted by the Auto-Tune plugin, he begins with a been-there-done-that sentiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>I did that yesterday, oh,<br>I heard that years ago when I was a kid.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, Casablancas praises The Weeknd\u2019s clothes, mentions The Strokes\u2019 song \u201cYou Only Live Once\u201d, and spots his own DNA on Harry Styles\u2019s Strokes-inspired hit, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/facts\/harry-styles\/as-it-was\">\u201cAs It Was\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Weeknd, I like your outfit,<br>YOLO, you only live once.<br>Dude kept the beat \u201cAs It Was\u201d.<br>John Legend, that\u2019s Josh Groban.<br>I guess I\u2019m flattered, maybe,<br>All good, we all steal, baby.<br>Y\u2019all ready for the next fad?<br>Chris Hedges next<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>You Don\u2019t Get It<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Critics often miss what\u2019s great about a work when it arrives. As an example, many said Paul McCartney\u2019s 1970 debut was imbalanced, slack, and unfinished-sounding. But Macca\u2019s solo debut contains \u201cMaybe I\u2019m Amazed\u201d, and one wonders what was wrong with people\u2019s ears in 1970. Also, <em>McCartney I<\/em> helped launch a kind of lo-fi, home recording revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You don\u2019t get it, it\u2019s a pity,<br>Maybe you\u2019ll catch up sooner.<br>Rather than later, baby,<br>It\u2019s lonely in the future<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, Casablancas goes after online music critic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wnO-YZFTn_k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Anthony Fantano<\/a>. I don\u2019t know if this rises to the level of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/axl-rose-the-rolling-stone-interview-2-99465\/5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Axl Rose vs. Jon Pareles<\/a>, but it\u2019s an interesting spat nonetheless.<br><br><em>I heard that twenty f***ing years ago, I did,<br>Fantano, word for word, when I was a kid.<br>Stick to the technical \u2019cause that\u2019s great,<br>But you would not recognize art in any age<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, if you caught The Strokes\u2019 ferocious performances at Coachella, you likely noticed that ignoring them after <em>Room On Fire<\/em> was a mistake.
