She told him she\u2019d had a dream about him and had written a poem from it. He asked if he could write a song around her verses, and Carlile <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DQMd8HOEQjJ\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=embed_video_watch_again\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>, \u201cYeah, that\u2019s what they\u2019re for!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>When you can\u2019t win for losing,<br>And the beggars start choosing the chaos in your head.<br>Calls the cracks to start showing,<br>All knowing, all glowing with the light of the<\/em>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Dying to raise the dead, oh<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The song feels like a conversation between partners. It\u2019s a pep talk to remain flexible amid internal anxieties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>You\u2019re a world away,<br>But you\u2019re still the same.<br>I know you by your heart,<br>I will call you by your name.<br>And it\u2019s a long way,<br>From the crack to the break.<br>You know that I remember everything<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Hozier<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Hozier enters with more reassuring words. But he also offers advice. You can either evangelize or enjoy nature. Either way, he encourages his friend to avoid rigid thought and stubborn shortsightedness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Steady yourself,<br>And your tumbleweed words.<br>Be a street corner preacher,<br>Or just feed the birds.<br>But don\u2019t hold to yourself,<br>With hard mortar and stone.<br>Be a rubber band man,<br>Make the water your bones<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Dying just to live now<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forever is permanent, but Mumford\u2019s partner reminds him that everything goes away. People strive for constants in their lives. It offers stability. But people change, as does the rest of the world. Ideas must evolve, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>When I said, \u201cForever.\u201d<br>You said, \u201cGet back in the car.\u201d<br>Nothing lasts forever, babe,<br>You know it breaks my heart<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, even though he\u2019s \u201ca world away,\u201d he hasn\u2019t changed at all. He thought he found strength in rigor. Instead, he just refused to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But as the track progresses, the story zooms in on the couple\u2019s relationship. The emotional cracks in him have created distance between the two.
