And in the opening track, Dylan recycles his rage from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/facts\/bob-dylan\/masters-of-war\">\u201cMasters Of War\u201d<\/a> to tell the story of a Black man in America handed <a href=\"https:\/\/innocenceproject.org\/news\/in-memoriam-of-rubin-hurricane-carter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">three life sentences<\/a> for a crime he didn\u2019t commit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Story of the Hurricane<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bob Dylan - Hurricane (Official Audio)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bpZvg_FjL3Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Co-written by Dylan and Jacques Levy, \u201cHurricane\u201d begins with the high drama of Levy\u2019s theatrical work. Dylan, with verses that read like a script, sets the murder scene as he introduces the man who\u2019d be falsely blamed for the grisly scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Pistol shots ring out in the barroom night,<br>Enter Patty Valentine from the upper hall.<br>She sees the bartender in a pool of blood,<br>Cries out, \u201cMy God, they killed them all!\u201d<br><br>Here comes the story of the Hurricane,<br>The man the authorities came to blame.<br>For somethin\u2019 that he never done,<br>Put in a prison cell, but one time he could-a been,<br>The champion of the world<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The story follows the conviction of Rubin \u201cHurricane\u201d Carter, the middleweight boxer arrested for a triple homicide in 1966. Here, the boxer has no idea his life will change. His dreams are soon crushed as the botched investigation leads police to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Meanwhile, far away in another part of town,<br>Rubin Carter and a couple of friends are drivin\u2019 around.<br>Number one contender for the middleweight crown,<br>Had no idea what kinda sh*t was about to go down<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>He Had a Rap for the Cops<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dylan\u2019s protest song highlights the persistent racism of the 1960s and the racial profiling that ended with Carter\u2019s life sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Alfred Bello had a partner, and he had a rap for the cops,<br>Him and Arthur Dexter Bradley were just out prowlin\u2019 around.<br>He said, \u201cI saw two men runnin\u2019 out, they looked like middleweights,<br>They jumped into a white car with out-of-state plates.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carter, an innocent man, served nearly 19 years before his sentence was overturned in 1985.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Yes, here\u2019s the story of the Hurricane.<br>The man the authorities came to blame,<br>For somethin\u2019 that he never done<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, the civil rights movement was nearing the end of a chapter.
