Yet beneath the irony, the Buddy Holly frames, the shredding metal solos, the <em>Blue Album<\/em>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/facts\/weezer\/pink-triangle\">noisy brilliance<\/a> of <em>Pinkerton<\/em>, Weezer\u2019s lyrics can be profoundly sad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are three Weezer classics that are propelled by a persistent fear of being alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cSay It Ain\u2019t So\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Weezer - Say It Ain&#039;t So (Version 3)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ENXvZ9YRjbo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cuomo\u2019s father left when he was only five years old. And in the opening verse, when a young Cuomo opens the refrigerator and finds beer, he assumes his stepdad will soon leave too. \u201cSomebody\u2019s Heine is crowding my icebox,\u201d he sings. He\u2019s in the garage, surrounded by KISS posters, the <em>Dungeon Master\u2019s Guide<\/em>, and other things that bring him joy and security. But it\u2019s the rock stars on the wall, his guitar, and his songs that help cure his lonerism. Making music, like most creative pursuits, offers a portal through which experiences pass. It can create a kind of time-stop or escape. And when you feel alone, it can be the best companion you could ever hope for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>In the garage, I feel safe,<br>No one cares about my ways.<br>In the garage where I belong,<br>No one hears me sing this song.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cOnly In Dreams\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Only In Dreams\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ha3QivnjbIU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Weezer ends the <em>Blue Album<\/em> with an epic about unrequited love. Cuomo describes a fantasy where he gets the girl. He asks her to dance, and she says, \u201cI just might take the chance.\u201d They reach out to hold each other\u2019s hands. It\u2019s a tender moment until the moment gets erased by reality. It was all just a dream.
