In what became one of her band Hole\u2019s defining songs, Love expresses feelings of rejection. Bitter and broken-hearted, she had run out of paper, and so her own skin would hold the final lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDoll Parts\u201d was written in emotional chaos. It also describes a relationship that publicly revealed dizzying fame before a tragedy unfolded. Love\u2019s grunge hit distills both the spirit and the sadness of her very public personal life. It appears on Hole\u2019s 1994 album, <em>Live Through This<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Yeah, They Really Want You<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hole - Doll Parts\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RD9xK9smth4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Written in 1991 about unrequited love for a guy in a band, Love uses a doll metaphor to explain her insecurity. She\u2019s fragile, broken, empty.<br><br><em>I am doll eyes,<br>Doll mouth, doll legs.<br>I am doll arms,<br>Big veins, dog beg<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the following lines say a lot, as this particular band, Nirvana, had just exploded out of Seattle with the culture-changing anthem <a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/facts\/nirvana\/smells-like-teen-spirit\">\u201cSmells Like Teen Spirit\u201d<\/a>.<br><br><em>Yeah, they really want you,<br>They really want you, they really do<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She wrote the song in the Cambridge apartment of Joyce Linehan, who had worked for Nirvana\u2019s former label, Sub Pop, in the 1990s.
