So years went by, and perhaps, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2026\/08\/28\/nx-s1-5846842\/mike-d-beastie-boys-thank-you-album\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">thought<\/a>, he was finished making music. However, with his sons, Davis and Skyler, Mike D finished <em>Thank You<\/em>, and his familiar and very much missed voice is back. Combining generations of technology\u2014Mike D\u2019s four-track cassette recorder and his sons\u2019 ease with computers\u2014his solo debut finds the \u201cone lonely Beastie I be\u201d musically reborn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>UNKLE<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Knock (Drums Of Death Pt. 2)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BrU3iiNyYhE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Thank You<\/em> may be Mike D\u2019s solo debut, but in 1998, he appeared on UNKLE\u2019s first album, <em>Psyence Fiction<\/em>. The English electronic group, which at the time featured James Lavelle and DJ Shadow, inspired by The Verve, brought the worlds of trip hop and alternative rock together. The Verve\u2019s front man, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XrFECnl3vno\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Richard Ashcroft<\/a>, also appears on the album alongside Radiohead\u2019s Thom Yorke, Badly Drawn Boy, and Ian Brown from The Stone Roses. But on \u201cThe Knock (Drums Of Death Pt. 2)\u201d, Mike D emcees the kind of patchwork track that echoes how Beastie Boys had perfected the art of sampling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Grand Royal and Luscious Jackson<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Luscious Jackson - Naked Eye\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0NhqN0KcWAE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the tradition of The Beatles\u2019 Apple Records, Beastie Boys formed an imprint called Grand Royal. The trio\u2019s third album, <em>Check Your Head<\/em>, was the first to feature the label\u2019s logo. But the first signing was Luscious Jackson. The New York alt-rock group features drummer Kate Schellenbach, who was a founding member of Beastie Boys. Grand Royal also became a magazine, though the company officially shuttered in 2001. Luscious Jackson\u2019s second studio LP, <em>Fever In Fever Out<\/em>, was certified Gold, propelled by the hit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/facts\/luscious-jackson\/naked-eye\">\u201cNaked Eye\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding the label, Mike D <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beastiemania.com\/qa\/grand_royal\/grand-royal-label.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>, \u201cWe used to sit for hours coming up with these ideas.
