However, one track was more important and personal to Hill than others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hill wrote much of the album while pregnant with her first son, Zion David Marley. He inherited the last name &#8220;Marley&#8221; from his father, Rohan Marley, Bob Marley&#8217;s son. The track &#8220;To Zion&#8221; is for him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cTo Zion\u201d Conveys Hill\u2019s Choice To Have a Child, Despite Opposing Pressure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Lauryn Hill - To Zion\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1sQjh261rU8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people told Hill to abort the child so she could focus on her career. She made her choice to keep the child, and the song &#8220;To Zion&#8221; shows her feelings throughout the experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lines from the track convey the pressure and emotion very successfully: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;But everybody told me to be smart\/ &#8216;Look at your career,&#8217; they said\/ &#8216;Lauryn, baby use your head&#8217;\/ But instead I chose to use my heart.&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The song depicts her love for Zion before he is born; it thoughtfully conveys how she chose to love her son rather than worry about how it might affect her life and career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hill\u2019s Pregnancy Played a Role When Writing the Tracks of Her Debut Album<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/inside-the-miseducation-of-lauryn-hill-252219\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rohan Marley told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, &#8220;Those songs, it\u2019s all her experience.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Much of <em>The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill <\/em>is the product of what Hill was experiencing and feeling. She credits her pregnancy for her creativity when writing the songs for the album: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I had the desire to write in a capacity that I hadn&#8217;t done in a while. I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s a hormonal or emotional thing&#8230; I was very in touch with my feelings at the time,&#8221; said Hill. &#8220;Every time I got hurt, every time I was disappointed, every time I learned, I just wrote a song.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The emotions rooted in the album created a piece of work that became deeply personal to Hill.
