In the song, front man Josh Homme revisits both the excitement and life-threatening danger of his youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Queens of The Stone Age - &quot;Where The Goth Girls At?&quot; (Official Music Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eAOIpDUDGX4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Trash Heap, Suburbs, No Escape<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The song begins with Homme at the mall, smitten with the punk cosmetic artists at the makeup counter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revolvermag.com\/music\/hear-queens-of-the-stone-ages-saucy-song-where-the-goth-girls-at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained<\/a> the history: &#8220;Growing up&#8230; watching the goth girls working the counter at JCPenney and giving goth makeovers to the old ladies, that\u2019s when I knew the only place I want to be is where the goth girls at,\u201d while adding, \u201cTeenage love, ain\u2019t it grand?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Doing makeup at the mall like bad tattoos,<br>Sterile eyes get blue-applied persuasions.<br>Trash heap, suburbs, no escape, not much to lose,<br>Tongue-tied, wrist-tied, corset-tight, I wanna<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, a near-death experience partly inspired the song, as he croons in the chorus. He <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/09\/queens-of-the-stone-age-new-song-where-the-goth-girls-at-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> <em>Consequence<\/em>, \u201cI think everyone in this life is either experiencing a near-life or near-death experience, or you certainly will if you haven\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then he recalled the time he nearly drowned at age 12. And how almost dying made the taste of food or the sight of a sunset more vivid. It recalibrated the awe most lose when we forget our days are numbered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Never felt so alive as the day I almost died.<br>If you only knew,<br>What only the goth girls do<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Smoking Cloves<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clove ciggies, and their black rolling paper, became a staple accoutrement of many goth kids in the 90s. You could almost smell the spices from a great distance. But it looked cool, exotic, alternative. (Certainly, I\u2019m not advocating for anyone to start puffing on these things. But you had to be there to understand.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>People like chewed bubble gum float in the pool,<br>Smoking cloves, you the black cat\u2019s pajamas.<br>Are you really merry when you go round and round?<br>I\u2019ll hold back your halo while you vomit<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, Homme reveals the consequence of dizzying good times.
