To that I say, the density of <em>Mellon Collie<\/em> is very much worth bearing. Or, you may have bowed out after <em>Mellon Collie<\/em> because alt-rock had reached its cultural peak and you moved on. I judge no one. But I\u2019d like to politely nudge you toward a Smashing Pumpkins track you might have missed. It\u2019s one of Billy Corgan\u2019s best songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cStand Inside Your Love\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Smashing Pumpkins - Stand Inside Your Love (Official Music Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2nm4xv3firw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1999, drummer Jimmy Chamberlin returned to the band for a short tour. However, the reunion was short-lived as bassist D\u2019arcy Wretzky exited while recording <em>Machina\/The Machines of God<\/em>. Released in 2000, the band\u2019s fifth studio album would also precede their breakup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Machina<\/em> was also overlooked as culture became consumed by glossy pop and nu metal. But one track in particular remains one of Corgan\u2019s finest: \u201cStand Inside Your Love\u201d. It was written quickly, and for anyone feeling nostalgic about <em>Siamese Dream<\/em>, this is your song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>But for the last time,<br>You\u2019re everything.<br>That I want and asked for,<br>You\u2019re all that I dream<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Though Corgan is the band\u2019s primary songwriter, Chamberlin\u2019s presence shows just how crucial he is to the Pumpkins\u2019 sound. Here, one of Corgan\u2019s finest choruses is propelled by furious fills that at once echo the fragility of relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Who wouldn\u2019t be the one you love?<br>Who wouldn\u2019t stand inside your love?<br>Protected and the lover of<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Slow Demise of a Great Band<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Smashing Pumpkins had been slowly falling apart, it seems, since before Chamberlin\u2019s absence during the <em>Adore<\/em> era. But Corgan kept things going. Then he brought back his anchor and delivered a Smashing Pumpkins classic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Don\u2019t understand,<br>Don\u2019t feel me now,<br>I will breathe for the both of us.<br>Travel the world,<br>Traverse the skies.<br>Your home is here within my heart<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since resurrecting The Smashing Pumpkins in 2005, Corgan has presented his band in various iterations.
