The song \u201cMimesis\u201d seems to document a broken connection. But it may also be a road map for how to exit the confusing abyss that generates a sense of disappearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps a modern anthem for reconnecting with one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Everybody\u2019s Depressed<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Fontaines D.C. - Mimesis (Lyric Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YEQwq31sT8M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Singer Grian Chatten describes the existential anxiety many feel in an ever-darkening world. His voice sits tucked inside a post-punk track that recalls the hypnotic bleakness of Joy Division. And it\u2019s that repetition, the \u201crunning on a wheel,\u201d as he puts it, that explains how hard it is to connect these days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Time is never far away for you,<br>You feel like something in your head is dead inside for real.<br>Well, everybody\u2019s depressed; we\u2019re running on a wheel,<br>I\u2019m here to fight your corner, my heart is open<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chatten travels a long distance to bond. He\u2019s making the effort while the person he\u2019s trying to reach, instead, submits to apathy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>I drove such a long, long way here,<br>Your indifference won\u2019t make me disappear.<br>And surely, you\u2019ll wake up in yourself,<br>But you can\u2019t blame nobody else<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Submitting to the Final Frame<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amid hazy synths and a motorik beat, \u201cMimesis\u201d, its title of Greek origin, meaning imitation, propels forward like the humdrum rhythm of insipid desolation. But it\u2019s not hopeless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>And time will take you far away, my love,<br>And feel the everlasting now; eternity is real.<br>The sun will leave the sky and all the stars reveal,<br>So close your eyes forever, again, again, again<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here, Chatten releases from the past. He won\u2019t be tricked by nostalgia or more of the \u201csame old, same old.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>I\u2019m submitting to the final frame,<br>Long, long waiting for the long, lost game. (Blame nobody else.)<br>Tired of living in a photograph, (Blame nobody else.)<br>Same old rattle in the same old laugh<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like many tracks on <em>Dopamine Chamber<\/em>, \u201cMimesis\u201d catalogs a kind of slow disappearance.
