Here are four covers of &#8220;Heroes&#8221; by David Bowie that reimagined the original song.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Peter Gabriel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Peter Gabriel - Heroes\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LsvuipGq2ns?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>First featured in the dramatic and emotional Season One episode three ending of Stranger Things, <a href=\"https:\/\/happymag.tv\/the-six-greatest-covers-of-heroes-by-david-bowie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Peter Gabriel&#8217;s <\/a>orchestral interpretation\u00a0retold the song in a haunting narrative. <em>\u201c<\/em>&#8216;Heroes,&#8217; for me, was always one of the great Bowie tracks,&#8221; Gabriel said. &#8220;It is heroism in the face of oppression and desperation; it\u2019s something triumphant despite the desperate situation.\u201d And that oppression and desperation are exactly what Gabriel caught in this cover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the time of the song&#8217;s original release, i<a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/david-bowies-1977-song-heroes-became-famous-in-stranger-things\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">t was never considered a &#8220;hit.&#8221;<\/a> The song never made it to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. But that all changed when Netflix&#8217;s inclusion caused the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/chart-beat\/david-bowie-heroes-streams-surge-stranger-things-finale-1236149455\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">song to surge in popularity. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only does the song play in several tense moments throughout the series, but it was also the ending credits song, making it the final song played in the hit show. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/tudum\/articles\/stranger-things-finale-end-credits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The choice<\/a> to end this record-breaking TV series<span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/about.netflix.com\/en\/news\/stranger-things-by-the-numbers-a-phenomenon-shaped-by-friendship-adventures\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0<\/a><\/span>came from one of the main actors, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/facts\/djo\">Joe Keery<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was actually Joe Keery who suggested that we do the Bowie version,\u201d <em>Stranger Things<\/em> creator Ross Duffer told Tudum. \u201cOnce Joe said that, we immediately knew that was the right song to end the show on because it is, in some ways, an anthem for &#8216;Stranger Things&#8217;. Jakob Armstrong)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9l1tDcFkV6c?start=2&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Green Day lead singer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.songfacts.com\/articles\/billie-joe-armstrong-covers-david-bowies-heroes-for-50th-season-of-survivor\/\">Billie Joe Armstrong and his son Jakob<\/a> have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/bille-joe-armstrong-jakob-david-bowie-heroes-cover-1235504061\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">taken on the challenge<\/a> of covering &#8220;Heroes&#8221; for the 50th season of <em>Survivor<\/em>. The song was first featured in a promo video for that season. It was released a month before\u00a0<em>Survivor<\/em>\u00a0Season 50, which started on February 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The song remains faithful to the original instrumentation but has an added alternative sound to the vocals. Jakob\u2019s work with his father isn&#8217;t his first run with music. He previously released music under the moniker Jakob Danger and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rockcellarmagazine.com\/ultra-q-get-yourself-a-friend-ep-listen-stream-jakob-armstrong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fronts the band\u00a0Ultra Q<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This cover aligns closely with Green Day&#8217;s successful halftime show performance at the Super Bowl LX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Blondie <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Heroes (Live)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pKBueTfGqiM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Three years after Bowie&#8217;s original release of the song, <em>Blondie<\/em> was taking the song on the road, occasionally covering the song as part of their live show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1978, the band performed &#8220;Heroes&#8221; all three nights of their sold-out show. To the fans&#8217; surprise, in the middle of the performance on the 12th of January, the band produced cover versions of The Nerves, Richard Berry, Donna Summer, James Brown, and, of course, &#8220;Heroes.&#8221; The band recorded\u00a0their rendition of &#8220;Heroes&#8221; and released it shortly after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mot\u00f6rhead<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mot\u00f6rhead  &quot;Heroes&quot;  (David Bowie Cover)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/J06yQb4lbPk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On Sept. 1, 2017, <em>Mot\u00f6rhead<\/em> released their album <em>Under C\u00f6ver<\/em>, <a href=\"https:\/\/stereogum.com\/1955684\/motorhead-heroes-david-bowie-cover\/music#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">which consisted of covers<\/a> that the band had recorded over the years. At the time of that album, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pastemagazine.com\/music\/motorhead\/motorhead-cover-david-bowies-heroes\">the only unreleased<\/a> track was the band\u2019s cover of David Bowie\u2019s \u201cHeroes.&#8221; The song was recorded before the death of bassist and frontman Lemmy Kilmister. It was one of the last songs the band recorded together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201d[Lemmy] was very, very proud of it not only because it turned out so well but because it was fun,&#8221; drummer Mikey Dee said in a statement. &#8220;Which is what projects like this should be\u2014fun.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their metal and more intense rendition of the song surpassed 50 million views.
