2Pac Artistfacts

  • He was born Lesane Parish Crooks in Brooklyn, New York. His parents, were active members of the Black Panther Party in New York and the following year little Lesane was renamed by the political organization Tupac Shakur.

"Tupac" came from the 18th-century Peruvian revolutionary Túpac Amaru II, whose name meant Shining Serpent. Túpac Amaru II led the largest rebellion in Spanish Colonial history. Though the indigenous uprising was unsuccessful and he was executed as a consequence, the revolutionary became a mythical figure in the Peruvian struggle for independence, as well as an inspiration to causes in Spanish America and beyond.

His last name Shakur means "Thankful," in Arabic.
  • Tupac was not involved in rap until he moved to Baltimore, Maryland were he attended The Baltimore School For Performing Arts. There he took the name MC New York.
  • Tupac started writing poems and began writing lyrics. He quit school in 1988 when he moved to Marin City, California near the Oakland area. There Tupac learned about street life and began to sell drugs. In Marin City, he joined a gang and became friends with Shock G, a leading underground rapper. In November of 1991, Tupac released his first album 2Pacalypse.
  • After many successful albums Tupac was asked to attend a Mike Tyson fight on September 7, 1996 in Las Vegas. After the fight (which Tyson won), Tupac and Marion "Suge" Knight (owner of Death Row records) were cruising on the Las Vegas strip when Tupac was shot 5 times in a drive by shooting. Six days later he was taken off life support and pronounced dead.
  • Many believe Tupac faked his own death. He promised he would be back in the video "I Ain't Mad At Ya" in which he foretold his own death. In the video for "Hail Mary," Tupac's tombstone read "Makaveli 1971-1996." >>

  • On November 18, 1993, he was arrested for sexually abusing a 19-year-old woman who he met in a New York nightclub, and allegedly sodomized and sexually abused with three of his friends. In 1995, Tupac was sentenced to prison for up to four and a half years, but received an early release after a few months. He married Keisha Morris on April 29, 1995 inside the Clinton Correctional Facility while serving his sentence. >>

  • He cut his chops with the rap group Digital Underground, where he was willing to take on a variety of roles as he worked his way up to feature rapper. One of these roles was a dancer: he would perform the The Humpty Dance alongside Humpty Hump (Shock G's character) at concerts. He got his turn on the mic in 1991 when he did a verse on "Same Song." Tupac's first movie appearance came the same year when he and the rest of the group performed the song in the film Nothing But Trouble.
  • His first major film role was in the 1992 movie Juice. According to Digital Underground founder Chopmaster J, Cara Lewis, who booked their tours for the William Morris Agency, invited DU rapper Money-B to audition for the movie, and Tupac went with him. Even though Tupac wasn't officially auditioning, he got the attention of the director and was offered the role.
  • Tupac auditioned for the role of Bubba in Forrest Gump and Mace Windu in Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace.
  • In 1971 a pregnant Afeni Shakur was accused with 20 other Black Panther members of conspiracy to carry out a bombing in New York. Facing a 300-year sentence, Shakur decided to represent herself in court. She interviewed witnesses and put forward legal arguments. After a lengthy trial she was acquitted, and a month later her son Tupac was born.
  • 2Pac's favorite song was Don McLean's 1972 folk-pop hit "Vincent." When he was fatally wounded in 1996, his girlfriend put this tune into a player next to his hospital bed to ensure it was the last song he listened to.

  • Cecil from Johannesburg, South AfricaTupac was Legendary in every aspect of the word.Unlike most other rappers who rapped about Money,Women and all the fancy things,he rapped about issues in Society that affected us all,he would always give you something to think about . Sure his songs were gangsta and raw but he portrayed his thoughts in that way to make us sit up and take notice and clearly it worked, thats what makes Tupac not only Legendary but Timeless. He might be dead and gone but his music will live forever! R.I.P. To The The Rap Legend,Cecil-South Africa.
  • Makaveli from Sauga/t-dot, Onokay to start off, people who think tupac was a muslim your totally wrong, in every song he say Lord, mostly Lord is appointed to Jesus Christ whos is the father the son and the holy spirit, here's a quote from tupac himself, "The reason I can sell 6 million records and go to jail and come out without a scratch is because I can look directly into my faith in Jesus, in God. And alot of things I can not do, I can not play basketball like every other black person in America, but I can act. I have to repay for that blessing by shining. If God gives you the voltage to shine and you waste it thats the curse.." and there you, and for the people who think tupac died because of crip killing your wrong, it's all underground hits, let me explain, people need to wake up! we are living in the end times where in the bible states it, the usa is created by masons or so called illuminati, they killed tupac after his last ablum got released, 8 weeks later he was killed, it was called K-illuminati, suge knight bailed tupac and told him that he had to sell his soul to the devil in order fo rthe fame and in order for him to get outta jail, but tupac studied alot when he was in prison , like art of war by sun tuz, so basically hollywood and everything that is billions in the market, those people most likely sold there soul for the fame on earth, but don't be misguided because , this fame they want on earth only last's about 70 - 90 years max, and when you die lucifer is waiting for your soul to take to you hell! repent for the end times are next door, everyone check out jessewoodrow in youtube he'll tell you how prophecy is unfolding, the first comment in this topic, the man needs to STFU! you ass whitee boy, anyways i'm off, R.I.P TUPAC AMARU SHAKUR/ MAKAVELI THE DON. G.O.A.T! ONE LOVE!
