Songfacts®:

  • AFI filmed a dramatic music video for "Love Like Winter," which was directed by Marc Webb. Webb had previously directed several other videos for the band, including the award-winning clip for "Miss Murder." Featuring outstanding cinematography and an appearance by model Christina Petrovic, the "Love Like Winter" video seems to use the song's lyrics as a script. In the clip, the band members are lost in a cold, mystical land, where lead singer Davey Havok encounters the mysterious, hooded Petrovic. Petrovic lures Havok to his death, as he follows her onto thin ice, which he falls through and is trapped beneath. The video ends with Havok drowning as he's joined by the shadowy woman. The song and video explore the concept of eternity, and the theme of winter as the end of life.
  • The "Love Like Winter" lyrical phrase "Por Siempre" is Spanish for "For Always."
  • "Love Like Winter" was the second single released from AFI's most successful album, Decemberunderground, which topped the US albums chart for one week in June 2006.
  • In a 2016 episode of the digital video show Aggressive Tendencies, AFI guitarist Jade Puget revealed that "Love Like Winter" originally was intended to be a song for his and frontman Davey Havok's electronic-music side project Blaqk Audio.
