Songfacts®:

  • This is about a crush Avril has on a guy, but every time she sees him she gets nervous and can't seem to say what she wants. She wants to tell him that she wants to spend the rest of her life with him, but the words won't come out. >>>

  • A track from Lavigne's debut album, Let Go, "Things I'll Never Say" is one of five songs she wrote for the set with the songwriting team The Matrix. This was a winning combination: Lavigne's first three singles were songs she wrote with this group - "Complicated," "Sk8er Boi" and "I'm With You."

  • Abby from TexasI relate to most of this song. I immensely adore a woman I work with but we're just friends bc she has a boyfriend. But agreeing to be friends doesn't magically make my feelings go away, tho how I wish it did. But as a result of only being friends & working together, I get so nervous around her bc I have all these feelings but I have to keep them to myself at work. I get so terribly nervous & then I start overthinking. So I relate the first verse alot bc it's literally me. And the first & end part of the chorus too. Be with you every night. Am I squeezing you too tight? Guess I'm wishing my life away. With these things I'll never say. Bc I yearn to always be by her side but I can never tell her that. Essentially, I get so nervous at work with her & I can never tell her my more immense feelings & it sucks & this song really helps me bear the suckiness. I adore her so much.
  • Alex from OhioThere is most certainly sexual innuendo in this song, Angie is not a "perv..." Mere. In the liner notes, the lyrics clearly read:

    "I wanna blow you...away"

    and

"I wanna see you go down...on one knee"

It's sooooo obvious they wrote them officially like this for a reason! That's how it was written! lol
  • Mere from Philadelphia, Pathats awesome sara!
  • Mere from Philadelphia, Pawow angie, congrats your a pervery. and josie you need to tell him!
  • Katie from Port Angeles, WaI really like this guy right now, and he knows I like him, he returns the feelings. We aren't together or anything, though.

These are all things I want to say to him though. Marry him one day be with him forever.
    Things like that.

I also enjoy the sexual innuendos...haha. I always wonder which the main focus of the song is about.
  • Joanna from London, United KingdomThis song shows how many people don't say what they really want to, mabe they think no one else will want to hear it "what use is it to you whats on my mind" And a tip for the people who have fancied guy's for years - My friend who fancied a boy for a while send him a valentines card then they ended up going out, and have been for about 2 and a half years. I know it might be embarrasing but if it doesn't work out you can always pretend that it was a joke card!

  • Angie from London, EnglandHasn't anyone else noticed the sexual innuendos in this song? "I wanna blow you *pause* away" and "I wanna see you go down... on one knee". It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out what she means... ;-)
