This country chart-topper was written by Chris Stapleton, Chris DuBois, and Jace Everett. It was the first #1 in Turner's career.
Stapleton and DuBois won ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) awards for the song, while Everett won BMI (Broadcast Music Incorporated) award.
Turner's wife, Jennifer, played his love interest in the music video. She would also appear in the clip for "I Wouldn't Be a Man" in 2010.
Josh Turner released a new version of the music video in June 2021. The clip once again co-stars the singer's wife and revisits the same scenes as the original visual, but now as parents to four children.
"The Way" by Fastball was inspired by the story of an elderly couple from Texas who drove to a nearby family reunion and kept going. Fastball's bass player imagined them taking off and having fun like they were young. The story didn't end well: the couple was later found dead after they crashed in a canyon.
