  • This innuendo-laden song is from Katy Perry's third studio album, Teenage Dream. The track was written by Perry, Tor Hermansen, Mikkel Eriksen, Ester Dean and produced by the Norwegian production team Stargate. Explaining the song on her 2010 London Live special, Perry said: "When I was learning how to craft songs, someone said to me, 'take a word or an idea and give it a flip - give it two meanings.' Peacock has both an innocent idea to it and also a naughty twist. It's just one of those fun songs that is full of attitude. I was crazy that day."
  • Perry told MTV News that she had added the song to Teenage Dream at the last minute, after some rather inspired sessions with Stargate. "Halfway through the record, I was telling [Capitol Records], 'I've got a lot of jewels, but I don't really have that crown. I really don't have that full-blown presentation,' " she said. "So I wanted to go in with Stargate, and I finished off a couple of songs: one called 'Fireworks,' which is probably my favorite song off the record, something I'm most proud of, and then a song called 'Peacock,' which is like the world's biggest innuendo."
  • Perry said of this phallus-fetishizing tune to Billboard magazine. "It's just a silly play on words. Peacock: It's an obvious innuendo, and I love an obvious innuendo."
  • Perry told Rolling Stone that she likens the sound of this cheerleader-ish song to Gwen Stefani's smash hit "Hollaback Girl."
  • Perry said to The Daily Star regarding this saucy track: "I'm a big fan of innuendo and puns. Peacock's fun, but it could be totally dirty. A five-year-old could sing it, but your 15-year-old will know what it means."
  • Perry told MTV News: "With me there are a lot of double entendres. There's a lot of puns. You know, when I learned how to write a song, the person that was kind of teaching me was an amazing songwriter, and he was like, 'Don't forget about the double entendres. Don't forget about the puns. Don't forget that one word can have two meanings.' So I'm always kind of looking for that one thing that's really normal that you can make twisted."
  • During her January 29, 2024, appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel asked Katy Perry if her four-year-old daughter, Daisy, enjoys singing and dancing to her mom's music, or if she has a favorite song. Perry admitted that her daughter's top pick isn't ideal.

"She knows a song that I don't want her to know," Perry confessed. "It's called 'Peacock.' Again, this is my karma. I have obviously tortured people with this."

Perry went on to say that Daisy even has a peacock costume she got from the zoo and loves to twirl around while singing the track. "I'm just like, 'NO!'" she said, covering her face.
