Songfacts®:

  • LMFAO kept the party rocking, following their global smash "Party Rock Anthem" with another #1 hit, "Sexy And I Know It." The very tongue-in-cheek party song finds the duo (Sky Blu and Redfoo) rapping about how girls can't resist their unorthodox style in a comically boastful manner similar to Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy" 20 years earlier.
  • Redfoo gave his definition of "sexy" to MTV News: "Sexy is confidence. It's 'I don't care what other people think, but I want them to think I'm sexy at the same time,'" he explained. "It's a Catch-22. I want to be seen. Sexy is you want attention and you gotta have moves. You gotta have moves, whether it be in the bedroom [or] on the dance floor - just the way you walk, the way you talk."
  • The music video was shot in late August 2011 and features Redfoo and some of LMFAO's usual Party Rock crew dancing around town in Speedos in front of some girls. Simon Rex from What I Like About You, Wilmer Valderrama from That 70s Show, adult film actor Ron Jeremy, playwright Daniel Kanengieter and mixed martial artist Alistair Overeem all have cameos in the clip.
  • "Sexy And I Know It" was #1 in America the first two weeks of 2012. "Party Rock Anthem" held the top spot for six weeks in the summer of 2011.
  • This was the fourth Hot 100 #1 with the word "sexy" in its title. Can you name the previous three? They are:

1979 "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" by Rod Stewart
1992 "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred
    2006 "SexyBack" by Justin Timberlake
  • The song is Redfoo's take on people who believe they are attractive when really they aren't. "That was my main inspiration for 'Sexy and I Know It'; people who obviously think they are but by normal standards are not, like the hairy old men in a Speedo on the beach with huge bellies, sunglasses and a cigar," he told The Big Issue. "France really inspired 'Sexy and I Know It,"' Redfoo added laughing.
  • "Sexy and I Know It" sountracked a TV ad for Pepsi Wild Cherry where an office worker imagines he's a sexy dancer. It's one of a series of Pepsi commercials showing how the beverage can brighten up an otherwise boring day.

In 2012, it showed up in a Super Bowl commercial for M&Ms candy.
  • And like Bruce Leroy, I got the glow

This line is a reference to the main character in the Motown-produced 1985 martial arts spoof The Last Dragon, where the main character is known as "Bruce Leroy," a play on "Bruce Lee." In one scene, he develops a glowing aura when he fights his opponent.
  • Madonna got "sexy" during the 2012 halftime show on February 5, 2012 when LMFAO joined her on stage to do some shufflin' to "Party Rock Anthem" and sing a snippet of "Sexy and I Know It."
  • LMFAO were on the scene for a few years for a few years before exploding with their Sorry For Party Rocking album in 2011. In 2009 they had a club hit with "I'm in Miami Trick," and they also teamed with Lil Jon that year on "Shots." When they finished touring in 2012 they announced an indefinite hiatus, with Sky Blu exploring various solo projects and Redfoo entering the world of tennis - he organized a pro tournament in Las Vegas called the Party Rock Open.
