Songfacts®:

  • The starting point for this song was a quote from Walt Whitman's "A Song of Joys," which is part of the American poet's 1855 collection Leaves Of Grass:

Oh, while I live to be the ruler of life, Not a slave.
To meet life as a powerful conqueror, and nothing exterior to me will ever take command of me

Nightwish keyboardist and songwriter Tuomas Holopainen said: "The underlying theme of the song is nothing less than the meaning of life, which can be something different for all of us. It's important to surrender yourself to the occasional 'free fall' and not to fear the path less traveled by."
  • The video was shot in Finland at various locations between September and November 2014, and directed by Ville Lipiäinen. The clip was inspired by the untold stories of abandoned places across the country.

  • Mike Gothard from Mansfield, Tx.A true masterpiece of goth rock ! It was the “Perfect” song. Nightwish is quiet the talent. RESPECT !!!!!
  • Lionhardt from Rio Chico, Venezuela Beautiful song, beautiful singer. What I really like the most about this song, other than the singer, is the lower harmony line in the chorus. Really beautiful.. A masterpiece of modern songwriting.
