Songfacts®:

  • This song is about the morning after a one-night-stand and realizing you're falling in love with that person. The band compared it to falling out of a window thinking, "this isn't good but it could be fun!" Lead singer, Damian Kulash, claims this happened to him once and he married her! >>>

  • This song's popularity skyrocketed with the music video. The video was one of the most watched on YouTube and featured a synchronized dance by the band on a series of treadmills. The famous treadmill dance was choreographed by OK Go frontman Damian Kulash's sister. Out of 21 attempts, the band was only able to complete the complicated routine three times.
  • The original title for this song was "The Treadmill Song." That title was axed for fear that it would confuse people who hadn't seen the video.
  • The treadmill dance has been parodied in a number of places, most notably an episode of The Simpsons entitled "Husbands and Knives" where Marge has a hard time finding a gym for her, and one gym features four people doing the treadmill dance. It was also parodied in a Cingular Wireless ad featuring a grocery store themed by music that included cashiers doing the treadmill dance on conveyor belts. >>>

Bert - Pueblo, NM, for above 3
  • The lyrics, "Throw on your clothes, the second side of Surfer Rosa," is a reference to the 1988 Pixies album Surfer Rosa.
  • The video won the Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video in 2007.

  • Camille from Toronto, OhOne of the funnest, most creative videos to watch. Ever. The dance was performed and recorded without any editing or splicing of the film. How many times did they try it until they got this incredible performance?
  • Oldpink from New Castle, InPretty fun little song, but the video is the coolest ever.
    Nothing else even comes close.
