  • Asked during a Reddit AMA about his inspiration for the song, DeVaughn replied: "The world is my inspiration, beautiful women are my inspiration (I love women). I feel like women are being misrepresented in R&B and Hip-Hop sometimes and on reality shows as well. So 'Queen' is just an anthem for all women all races, all faces, all sizes."
  • Raheem DeVaughn told The Boombox that he wrote the song for Aretha Franklin. "A few years back, Aretha invited me to perform at a private birthday party for her," he explained. "She is a big fan of my music and I didn't know it at the time. 'Woman' is one of her favorite songs. She performs the song live sometimes."

"So when I finally met her she was like, 'Can you do something like that for me?' and two days later I wrote ['Queen'] with Chucky Thompson," DeVaughn continued. "She fell ill and has since bounced back and now I put the song out."
