Songfacts®:

  • This features American singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright on vocals. Frontman Gary Lightbody wrote this song towards the end of their recording sessions in Ireland and thought it would fit Wainwright's voice perfectly, unaware she was actually touring in Ireland at the time. Lightbody said on his band's MySpace site: "I'm not a great believer in fate. But when someone called to say 'She's here, in this country and she wants to sing it', that was definitely a moment."
  • Lightbody wrote this track in 20 minutes. He told Q Magazine August 2008: "Because I was so familiar with her album, I wrote to the dark angel that I thought Martha was. But she turned out to be one of the sweetest people in the universe."
  • The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 2010, four years after its initial release after featuring in the trailer for the movie Dear John.

  • Denise from Derry , IrelandThis song explores how long distance realtionships can be hard when all you want is to be with the person. "am miles from where you are, i lay down on the cold ground and i, i pray that something picks me up, and sets me down in your warm arms." this shows how drespratly they want to be with the person, praying that something will pick them up and take them to the person.
