  • My friend drove off the other day
And now he's gone and all they say
Is you gotta live 'cause life goes on
But now I see I'm mortal too
I can't live my life like you
Gotta live it up while life goes on

    And I think it's alright
That I do what I like 'cause that's the way I wanna live
    And so I give
    And I'm still giving

And now I wonder about my friend
If he gave all he could give
'Cause he lived his life like I live mine
If you could see inside my head
    Then you'd start to understand
The things I value in my heart

    And I think it's alright
That I do what I like 'cause that's the way I wanna live
    And so I give
    And I'm still giving

    You know that
    I know that
    You're watching me

    And I think it's alright
That I do what I like 'cause that's the way I wanna live
    And so I give
    And I'm still giving

    Gotta make a plan
    Gotta do what's right
    Can't run around in circles
If you want to build a life
But I don't want to make a plan
    For a day far away
While I'm young and while I'm able

  • Uriah from North CarolinaIf you disect the lyrics it sounds to me that 2 good friends having to part ways because one has decided to quit using hardcore drugs. I am a recovering addict and I have had to part ways with a couple good friends over the years to get clean. Heroin does not play, s--t has killed 3 of my friends and is working on another. I know they are watching me from heaven, cheering me on. Encouraging me to give. Give what is good inside me to my friends and family. God created me to give. When I am strung out, I don't give much at all. The end of the song says can't run around in circles if you want to a life. Which when addicted your life becomes a circle jerk. No quick fix for it as the end of the song says I don't want to make a plan for a day far away. Cause it's damn near impossible to run from a chemical addiction. The last verse encourages me to focus on moving forward and the good stuff in my life. Live it up while life goes on..... Next to sassafras roots, my favorite Green day song. Can't help headbanging. If anybody struggling addiction reads this, please get some help ASAP. Life is too short to be controlled by a chemical. Addiction is a tyrant, theif, and professional manipulating lying MFer. To hell with addiction!
  • Joanna from London, United KingdomI think this is a good song,it has a good bassline! Also its cool that its not sad because its showing how to look positively at life even if there is something really bad happening like a friend dying. It expresses how Mike Dirnt has decided to do what he wants in life because it could end at any time. "i think its alrite that i do what i like coz thats the way i wanna live" shows how he wants to live life his way and not let anyone else stop him from doing what he believes.
  • Michelle from Brook Park, MnI like this song, but you would think if it were about Mike Dirnt's friend dying in a car accindent..that it would be more sad..
