Mad as Rabbits

Album: Pretty. Odd (2008)
  • Come save me from walking off a windowsill
Or I'll sleep in the rain.
Don't you remember when I was a bird
    And you were a map?
Now he drags down miles in America
    Briefcase in hand.
The stove is creeping up his spine again,
    Can't get enough trash.

He took the days for pageant
    Became as mad as rabbits
    With bushels of bad habits
    Who could ask for anymore?
    Yea who could have more.

His arms were the branches of a Christmas tree
Preached the devil in the belfry.
    He checked in
To learn his clothes had been thieved at the train station.
    Rope hung his other branch
And at the end was a dog called Bambi
Who was chewing on his parliaments
When he tried to save the calendar business.

The poor son of a humble chimney sweep
    Fell to a cheap crowd
So stay asleep and put on that cursive type
You know we live in a toy.
Paul Cate's bought himself a trumpet from the Salvation Army
But there ain't no sunshine in his song
    We must reinvent love.
    Reinvent love
    Reinvent love

He took the days for pageant
    Became as mad as rabbits
    With bushels of bad habits
    Who could ask for anymore?
    Yea who could have more.

    We must reinvent love.
    Reinvent love

  • Phillip from Batesville, Ari thought this song was about a man who has it all and wants to get richer as an entrepreneur (And now he walks down miles in America, briefcase in hand)
he thought it would be easy (He took the days for pageant) which could mean he thought everything would be easy and have a beautiful turn out
he gets mad when it doesn't work out (became as mad as rabbits, with bushells of bad habbits) but he already has everything else a man could want except for money( who could ask for any more, who could have more)
Then he tries other jobs, which don't work out and he stays angry. The line "we must reinvent love" is saying he needs to stop being obsessed with money and find what true love is.
  • Jessica from Fairfax, VaOllie, I don't understand how it's degrading... I mean it's about a girl cheating on a dude, it makes sense the lyrics wouldn't be great, but I'm assuming Ryan didn't mean it to apply to the gender :D

Love this song! I heard it on FOE earlier, and when I heard Ryan's voice, it made me fall in love with Pretty. Odd. again!
  • Ollie from Point Place, WiEllen... oh, it's you again!
Ellen, what do you mean? many of the songs on Pretty Odd are upbeat... I love this album. I was not a fan of their other albums. Especially "Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have without Taking Her Clothes Off"... I'm not a feminist but this is SO degrading to women.
  • Ollie from Point Place, Wi"Reinvent Love" is such a glorious line
  • Brittany from Townsville, AustraliaIt didn't make sences when i first heard it buy now it does, its an awesome song that i finally get [lolz], but i love panic at the disco's music, its mad, rockin, rad and everything awesome [lolz] but it waz here in the ville [lolz... ...again]
  • Elicia from Zanesville, Oh"Parliaments" are a brand of cigarettes.
  • Alex from Pompton Plains, Njthe harmonies in this song are rediculous, this is probably my favorite song on pretty. odd.
  • Ellen from Sydney, AustraliaI'm not really a big fan of Pretty.Odd, but i think this is the best song on the album, i was glad to hear something at least a little up-beat...
  • Z from Somewhere Over The Rainbow, WaI've always felt that this song was about an insane, eccentric person who tried to make a lot of money in businesses that weren't very successful. His father was a chimeny sweep, and he eventually became part of an awful crowd.

  • Robin from Oakville, Onryan ross said he wanted to write a song about a man who was in teh calender buisness and business was not very good
