  • I don't remember what day it was
I didn't notice what time it was
All I know is that I fell in love with you
And if all my dreams come true
I'll be spending time with you

Every day's a new day in love with you
With each day comes a new way of loving you
Every time I kiss your lips my mind starts to wander
And if all my dreams come true
I'll be spending time with you

Oh, I love you more today than yesterday
But not as much as tomorrow
I love you more today than yesterday
But darling, not as much as tomorrow

Tomorrow's date means springtime's just a day away
Cupid, we don't need ya now, be on your way
I thank the lord for love like ours that grows ever stronger
And I always will be true
I know you feel the same way too

Oh, I love you more today than yesterday
But not as much as tomorrow
I love you more today than yesterday
But only half as much as tomorrow

Every day's a new day, every time I love ya
Every way's a new way, every time I love ya
Every day's a new day, every time I kiss ya Writer/s: Patrick Upton

  • Patrick Kubecka from FloridaIn answer to the inquiry as to who the players were on this tune...One version was cut in upstate N.Y. The bassist was a young Michael Dempsey and drummer Frank Arrigo. I believe it to be the single version.
  • Janet Or Jr from Bronx New YorkI love all the oldies late 1969 and 1970.
  • Jazzmanfla from Bradenton, FlDoes Anyone know who the session players were on “More Today”? Fabulous!!!
  • Joseph from Lewisburg, PaInteresting history by Dave of MN, and to make matters more intriguing, according to Wikipedia archbishop Murray Memorial high school was an all girls school (which later merged with an all boys school in Maplewood Minnesota); so the question becomes was the author of the poem a man or a woman?
Just looking into this tune on the heels of seeing Mandy Harvey live covering this number as her opening song, and hitting it out of the Kean College concert hall.
  • Robert from Bradenton, FloridaIs there any way to find out who played drums and bass on the recording? Fabulous song and bass and drums are great!
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn April 26th 1969, the Spiral Starecase performed "More Today Than Yesterday" on the ABC-TV program 'American Bandstand'...
Four weeks earlier on March 30th, 1969 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 at position #88; and on June 8th, 1969 it peaked at #12 (for 1 week) and spent 15 weeks on the Top 100...
The quartet had two other Top 100 hits; "No One For Me To Turn To" (#52 in 1969) and "She's Ready" (#72 in 1970)...
Lead singer/guitarist Pat Upton owned PJ's Alley in Guntersville, Alabama; Ricky Nelson performed at the club on December 31st, 1985 and Upton joined him onstage. Later that night Ricky died in a plane crash.
  • Dave from Minneapolis, MnThis song was originally a poem that was written by a guy for his girlfriend who later became his wife. He attended Archbishop Murray Memorial High School. His poem was published and then was pirated by Spiral Staircase. When he first heard this song on the radio, he knew it was his poem. It was almost word for word like his published poem. He contacted someone from Spiral Staircase and was totally blown off by them. Since his poem was not copyrighted, nothing every came from it. And yes, he is stilled married to the subject of the song.
  • Tom from Portland, OrYes renee, that is correct. Spiral Starecase's keyboardist Harvey Kaye's daughter is Brenda K Starr.
  • Jay from Centereach, Long Island, NyThis is a nice song. I have heard the song countless times, but had never seen the name of the group in print. I always thought it was by The Spiral Staircase. Thank you songfacts!
  • Terry from Va.beach, Vastevie wonder rip off? cant remember a stevie song quite this good. if it was a rip off it turned out better than 99% of stevie's songs
  • Dave from Cullman, AlBack in the summer of '68, between college years, I wrote a sketch for a country-sounding song based on the line "I love you more today than yesterday and less than tomorrow." However, the more I thought about it, the more I convinced myself that surely someone had already done something with that line, and I threw the sketch away. ARGH!!!!
  • Don from B G, KyYes poster Kevin, I always thougth this was a STEVIE WONDER song. I had posted that comment on the youtube video of the song. Sorry SPIRAL STAIRCASE, we hardly knew ya. I wonder if they had any other great sounding songs?
  • Gene from Pearl River, NyI don't know about "Uncle Tommy", but "Pat Upton" was the lead vocalist. There was no one named Tommy in the original band
  • Joe from Yorkville, IlMy great Uncle Tommy was the singer.
  • Tanya from La Verne, CaI can't get enough of this song!
  • Josh from Staten Island, NyThis was played during the credits of The Waterboy, starring Adam Sandler
  • Kevin from Reading , PaI always kind of thought of this song as a semi rip-off of Stevie Wonder. The arrangement, instrumentation and even the lead vocal remind me of late '60s Stevie a la "Yester-Me Yester-You Yester-day," "A Place in the sun," and a few others. Could just be me.
  • James from Gettysburg, PaThis is much a fun and beautiful song. I put it on my wedding soundtrack for my wife.
  • Matthew from Milford, Ma...Wow, this song is terrific... I really love it, it's a perfect song for tender moments!!!
  • Renee from Bloomington, MnI remember reading somewhere that one of the members of this group was the father of Brenda K. Starr of "I Still Believe" fame. Mariah Carey covered this song because she is a friend of Brenda and used to sing back-up with her.
