British singer and songwriter Raye won the 2026 Mercury Prize for her second studio LP, This Music May Contain Hope. And speaking of hope, she’s expecting her true love to find his way home on “Where Is My Husband!”, the first single from her U.K. chart-topper.
Notice the exclamation (!). She’s not asking a question, but presenting a statement of fact: He’s out there; now he better get here.
Tell Him He Should Holler
On the swinging, jazz track, Raye is tired of waiting for the love of her life. Maybe he’s out there with another woman, but if you spot him, tell him to call.
Baby, where the hell is my husband?
What is taking him so long to find me?
Oh, baby, where the hell is my lover?
Getting down with another?
Tell him if you see him, baby, if you see him,
Tell him, tell him he should holler.
“I’m an old-fashioned girlie,” Raye told British Vogue. “Is it too much to ask that I’m sat at a bar one day and you walk up to me, and we look into each other’s eyes and you order me a Negroni, and we get talking and you love jazz music and you’re intelligent,” she said about her future man.
Why is this beautiful man waiting for me to get old?
Why he already testing my patience?
I only fear he’s taking time with other women that ain’t me,
While I’ve been reviewing applications.
He’ll face consequences when he finally arrives. And she prays to God that he hurries up.
Wait till I get my hands on him, I’ma tell him off too,
For how long he kept me waiting, anticipating.
Praying to the Lord to give him to my loving arms,
And despite my frustrations.
Lonely Acrobatics
She’s done going home alone. He doesn’t know it yet, but his future wife is already waiting.
I’m doing lonely acrobatics, unzipping my dress at 2 a.m.,
And I’m tired of living like this.
He must be out there getting ready, tryna fix up his tie,
Uh, huh-huh, uh, hello? This where your wife is.
Co-produced by Raye and Mike Sabath, “Where Is My Husband!” reached No. 1 on the U.K. Singles chart and No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.
