The Event That Led Adéla to Record the Starry Homage “Nicole Kidman”

Slovak singer Adéla is a fan of homages, as heard on her synth-pop hit, “Ain’t In LA”, a tribute to her hometown, Bratislava. But the core theme of that song and much of her debut LP, Prima, is identity and how we evolve even when we are far from home.

She further explores identity with yet another homage on her single, “Nicole Kidman”. She also shows that explorations of uniqueness and the curiosity that leads to discovery can be paired with a banging, danceable track. Here, Adéla uses the Academy Award-winning actress as an avatar for crafting her own glamorous story.

Adéla begins with playful glam ambitions and a nod to Kidman’s films Moulin Rouge! and Babygirl.

Soon, she arrives at an event, waves at the paparazzi, and sings, “Live vicariously through me, write my life like it’s a movie.”

“Nicole Kidman” celebrates fashion, swagger, and self-empowerment. This is the kind of jam you crank when you’re getting ready to go out. People often use music to shape their insecurity-busting poise. The verve required to show up at a high-profile scene like you’ve been there before.

The Event

So what inspired the tribute?

“Somehow, I got invited to a Golden Globes event. I’ve never been in a movie, but I got all glammed up, put into a dress, had my hair done, and I looked really good,” she told Rolling Stone.

“My hair was super bouncy, and my corset was so tight that I thought, ‘I feel like Nicole Kidman right now’. I actually watched Eyes Wide Shut and became obsessed with her. To me, she is the movie star.”

In the Hannah Lux Davis-directed visual, Adéla references Kidman’s most iconic films, including Eyes Wide Shut, a film about obsession and ego that helped power Adéla’s starry homage.
