Flowers Two Previous Solo Albums Hit No. 1 in the UK

Brandon Flowers’ debut release, Flamingo, peaked at No. 1 in the UK in 2010. It was an impressive feat for the Killers singer. It’s not always easy stepping away from your band for a solo release, as a failed attempt could easily ruin the band’s image as well. This was proven successful for Flowers, though, who earned a No. 1 album in the UK. Flamingo peaked at No. 8 on the US Billboard chart. It was even more of an amazing feat when he replicated that success in 2015. His sophomore album, The Desired Effect, peaked at No. 1 in the UK as well. The Killers have hit No. 1 on the UK Albums chart eight times, making Flowers a well-accomplished artist in the UK.

Elton John Listed Brandon Flowers as a Hero

From 2006 to 2016, The Killers released annual Christmas singles for Project Red, a charity supporting the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. They released Don’t Waste Your Wishes in 2016, a compilation album of the singles. In 2010, Elton John served as the editor for The Independent’s World AIDS Day special edition. John placed Flowers No. 4 on the list, citing his philanthropic initiatives throughout the years.

Flowers Has Been Sober Since 2008

Early in his career, Flowers gave up drinking and smoking to prioritize his family. It also served to prolong his music career. Flowers is a Mormon and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Due to this, and having children, Flowers sought to be a positive role model.

In a 2011 interview with The Daily Beast, Flowers detailed how his father ended the tradition of generations of alcohol addiction. “My dad became a better person when he stopped doing all that stuff, so it was a big lesson for me.” He also spoke on the results, stating, “I sang better, I had more longevity, and I felt better. And being committed to my wife and family, I can’t think of a downside to it. You’re more yourself, and you’re more wholesome. I believe in God, so I believe it’s the way that He intended us to be.”
