Blackpink’s Jennie has released “Less Than A Lover”, which previews the singer’s expected second solo album. It follows her 2025 smash solo debut, Ruby, as well as a high-profile feature on Tame Impala’s “Dracula” remix.
Jennie’s breezy new single isn’t a typical summer jam. “Less Than A Lover” finds Jennie pulling back on an anxious lover. Instead of diving into a serious relationship, the K-pop star would rather spend more time splashing in the waves, under the warm sun, without the pressure of serious commitments or a chilly partner.
Don’t Think Too Much
In “Less Than A Lover”, Jennie isn’t rushing toward “the one.” Instead, she wants to slow down and enjoy the summer without the pressure of wondering whether there’s a future between the two.
Don’t rush,
Teaching you, teaching me how to trust, don’t have to be undercover.
It’s just us,
It’s more beautiful when we open up and get to know each other.
“Don’t think too much,” she sings. If this is a fling, that’s fine. If it becomes something more serious, then that’s fine too.
When all feels lost,
Don’t think too much,
’Cause all I need this summer…
She doesn’t need a lover. They can enjoy each other’s company without the anxiety of planning the rest of their lives together. People often focus on the future. But in doing so, they miss the present. And Jennie wants nothing more here than fun.
Is a little bit less than a lover,
Need a little bit less than a lover.
You get a little bit more than another.
Need a little bit less, little less, little less,
Need a little bit less than a lover.
Just Splash
Still, the careless sentiment only works when both people are on board with a laid-back affair. Don’t make this an entanglement. That’s when things get messy. “Splash, splash,” she says.
Splashing on the water,
Please don’t make this hardеr on me, promise me.
Tan linеs on your body,
I’m tracing your spine in degrees.
Relax, slow down, have fun, and enjoy what’s in front of you. That’s the sentiment. It’s good advice when a pair is planning a tryst.
