Being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a huge accomplishment, and between bands, solo careers, and even supergroups, a few musicians have had the distinction of being inducted more than once. While plenty of men have had the honor, only a few women have, and the very first was a beloved rock icon.
Stevie Nicks has been recognized by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for both her role in Fleetwood Mac and her successful solo career. Nicks first joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 along with then-boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham, and after a string of hit albums with the band, she released her first solo album, Bella Donna, in 1981. She continued to release music both with Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist into the early ’90s.
Nicks Was Inducted After Her First Nomination
Fleetwood Mac was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Nicks’ solo induction followed over 20 years later in 2019, the first year she was nominated.
“To be recognized for my solo work makes me take a deep breath and smile,” she said at the time. โItโs a glorious feeling.โ
Nicks also recognized the fact that she was the first woman to be inducted twice.
“My biggest hope is that I have opened the door due to the fact that thereโs 22 men who have gone in twice and zero women,โ she said at the time. โI think thatโs really a little off balance. Thatโs what Iโm hoping, that whatโs happened here to me will give all the little rock and roll stars that are just waiting out there a little hope that they can also do what I do.โ
As part of her solo induction ceremony, she performed hits like “Stand Back,” as well duets of “Leather and Lace” with Don Henley and “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” with Harry Styles, who also inducted her.
Since Nicks’ induction, two more women have been inducted into the Hall of Fame for the second timeโCarole King and Tina Turner.
“I feel that I definitely broke a big rockโnโroll glass ceiling,” Nicks said in an interview after her induction.
