It’s been a decade since Bruno Mars released a full-length solo album. The Romantic arrived in 2026, and as the title suggests, Mars continues to croon enduring soul songs. Continuing a familiar theme for the pop star, “Risk It All” features Mars promising long-term commitment, though this time he does so over a delicate bolero.
Co-produced with D’Mile, “Risk It All” reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 as Mars proves, once again, that he’s one of the most reliable hitmakers in pop.
Ain’t No Mountain High Enough
Echoing classic soul singers like Sam Cooke and Smokey Robinson, Mars dedicates himself entirely to his romantic partner.
For just the chance to win your heart,
You could set the bar beyond the stars,
I’ll do anything, anything you ask me to.
Ain’t no mountain high enough, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell once sang to each other. Here, Mars continues the tradition of promising the moon, mountains, and stars to a lover.
Say you want the moon,
Watch me learn to fly.
Ain’t no mountain you could point to,
I wouldn’t climb.
In the chorus, Mars admits how crazy this all sounds. But like Beyoncé before him, Mars is crazy in love, and he’s willing to risk everything to prove his loyalty.
It’s crazy, but it’s true,
There’s nothing I won’t do,
I’d risk it all for you.
Grenade and Timeless Love Songs
When Mars debuted in 2010 with Doo-Wops & Hooligans, he opened the album with “Grenade”. And made clear from the beginning what he was willing to do for a partner.
“I’d catch a grenade for you / Throw my hand on a blade for you / I’d jump in front of a train for you,” he sings in the chorus.
It’s desperate, almost childlike. But a romantic life tends to make the brain prioritize the impulsive over the rational. It may be reckless, but part of love’s thrill is the risk. And Mars makes clear he’s willing to jeopardize it all.
Or at least climb the charts once again with a risky romantic promise.
I would swim across the sea just to show you,
Sacrifice my life just to hold you.
