Foo Fighters Announce New Album, ‘Your Favorite Toy’

After weeks of teasing, rock band Foo Fighters have announced their 12th studio album, Your Favorite Toy, will be released this spring.

The band also shared the album’s title track, which has a more raw sound than the band’s typical material. The tracklisting for Your Favorite Toy also includes the previously released song “Asking for a Friend,” which serves as the album’s closing track. “Today’s Song,” released over the summer, is not included.

“‘Your Favorite Toy’ really was the key that unlocked the tone and energetic direction of the new album,” frontman Dave Grohl said ina press release. “We stumbled upon it after experimenting with different sounds and dynamics for over a year, and the day it took shape I knew that we had to follow its lead. It was the fuse to the powder keg of songs we wound up recording for this record. It feels new.”

Following a few cryptic social-media posts, the band previewed the new music last week, with an interactive website designed to look like a fan’s bedroom, packed with clickable posters of the band, which played snippets of all the tracks from Your Favorite Toy. Grohl had also hinted at the finished album during a recent concert.

The album is Foo Fighters’ first with new drummer Ilan Rubin, previously of Nine Inch Nails and the replacement for Josh Freese after the band decided to part ways with him. Freese, in turn, was the replacement for late longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in 2022, and has since joined Nine Inch Nails, meaning the two bands have effectively swapped drummers.

Recording for Your Favorite Toy began in September at Grohl’s home studio with co-producer and engineer Oliver Roman, and it was mixed by Mark “Spike” Stent. It will be released on April 24 via Roswell Records/RCA Records and is currently available for pre-order. The album is the follow-up to 2023’s But Here We Are, the band’s first album since Hawkins’ death. Foo Fighters will also be spending their summer on the roadโ€”they’ll make some festival appearances before embarking on their Take Cover stadium tour.
